Colnago Master project / build

Hi All,
after building up a couple of recent frames (Lemond Victoire Titanium, Lemond Zurich 853) riding them for a while and coming to the conclusion that the Top tube was indeed too long, i decided to change direction....
Both Lemonds were duly sold.
I thought i'd go Italian.
Having admired the Art Decor period of 90s Colnagos i thought i'd keep my eye out for a nice example. I want to build this next project using Campagnolo 10 speed and using threadless forks whilst keeping a classic look.
So here's what i found.....

A NOS Colnago Master Olympic Frame

Here's a teezer pic:

Many more to come as the project comes together!
cheers

Hi,
it's a 54.5 CC seat tube, 56c-t, and 55 cc top tube (from what the seller says) - i don't have this beauty in my hands yet - just waiting on shipping from Italy...
here's another pic:

Beautiful frame, but how do you get a classic look from Campi 10spd (Ergo yes?) and a threadless fork?

Did it come with a fork? what are you planning? The Soma straight blade track fork woll look great on that, and possibly save a few dollars too.

Well, my intepretation of a classic look - maybe more of a retro/modern look would be more accurate!

10 speed ergo Record with UT crankset
wheels: Black ambrosio excellence rims laced to silver 10 speed record hubs, vittoira open corse evo sc tan wall tyres
Bars: deda newton shallow, seat: rolls.
etc etc

these are the forks - original 1" time/colnago

Nice frame and in great condition from the initial photos. I too like the Art Decor which looks great on the Master Olympics. Why not use a Precisa steel fork and a quill stem? Your fork does look good though.

My vote if for threadless. If starting from the frame, I usually go threadless. More benefits and threadless looks really good if you do it right IMO.

Wow! That is a beauty. Just yesterday evening, I saw a Master with a friend of mine, who has bought it used. It was a small frame, a 50 cm.

The shape of the tubes and the head tube lugs are so nice. While I am not a fan of the straight blade forks, the bike I saw last night still looked amazing. This one too definitely will.

I await the build now.

Thanks for the comments - i could have gone for a threaded fork (exactly the same design as the threadless one) but i really prefer a threadless set up - especially with regards to choice of bars/stems and a bit of weight saving too.
Headset wise i have 4 options....
Chris King Pink with white lettering - threadless
Chris King Black sotto voce - threadless
Chris King Silver with white Lettering - threadless
Campagnolo record silver - threadless
I'm leaning towards the King pink....
what do you think?

What can I expect to pay for a frameset like this? Ebay suggests around 1000, which makes me think I should just look for a late 80s master.

I can't wait to see the finished bike. I love the Art Decor paint.
I picked up a Colnago Master Piu late in 2011. It has the Decor paint scheme. These bikes are art on wheels.

I have an 96 Master Olympic frameset in the same color scheme that I built with modern components. At 62cm she weighs 18 lbs and is my favorite ride. She pushed my Bianchi, classic carbon Miyata, and Colnago Ovalmaster (titanium) down a notch to take first place. The gilco tubing is cool.

I'm awaiting build pics

Well today a nice cardboard box arrived from Italy!!!
I had butterflies opening it (took a while) and inside was the beautiful NOS Master Olympic as described by the seller.
The colours are a lot more vivid in real life and really striking.
I'm just about to install the headset - unfortunately i only have a camera on my phone but
i'll try my best to get a good picture of the frame forks and headset.....

Do you plan to cut the fork tube or add spacers under the stem?

This is going to be exciting! I like the pink headset choice, glad to see someone have a little fun and not be plain jane subdued and do a build with poopey brown brooks saddle and bar tape for a change!

Those are such beautiful looking frames, I always hated the little guy figure art on top of the top tube though
