Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gone carbon

I've been riding a 2006 Specialized Roubaix, aluminum frame with carbon fork and seat stays, and it has been a good bike. About two weeks ago I decided to go full carbon and bought 2012 Fuji Grand Fondo 3.0 - it was a great price and I got several hundred dollars in points/credit to use at Performance as well. I wasn't sure the full carbon would make that much of a difference, but I am happy to say I was wrong. This new ride is so comfortable, very smooth and forgiving. It also handles really well; I just point and it goes, where I really had to steer the Roubaix through corners. The only changes I've made so far are transfering my Specialized Toupe Team saddle and Dura Ace 7850 tubeless wheels.

And those oval wheels must take some getting used to.

Enjoy the bike! I'm sure you got a pretty good deal with the sale that Performance is running right now. As to the weight, at least you already dropped about 2 pounds with the Dura Ace tubeless!

Congrats! I found the switch from aluminum to carbon very pleasing also. Enjoy riding it

Pretty sure his bike from the factory is 19lbs. Probably saved a little weight in the saddle and a bunch in the wheels..So I'd venture a guess that his bike is around 18lbs right now.

Any other wonderful comments you'd like to add?

Congratulations on the new bike, looks very nice. A better picture would be nice though.

Also, ignore the guy below, not sure why someone would post something like that on a new bike thread.

I have seen some ridiculously good deals on Fuji bikes lately. In my opinion one of the best bang for the buck bikes on the market. Congrats and enjoy!

I too went from an aluminum bike with carbon fork andseat stay to an all carbon bike. It has made me want to go out and ride a lotmore. The thing that really amazed me was how much of a difference it madefrom switching to a carbon handlebar from aluminum.

Really nice bike and maybe the best deal out there on a new bike. I've seen lots of posts different places on people that brought or considering that bike and the input is all very positive. Enjoy the bike and the red/balck color combo looks sharp. The red bar tape is an excellent touch.

I am sure you immediately noticed the double bump in performance, from a more agressive geometry to a carbon fiber frame.

Ride long, ride fast, ride hard, and ride safe.

Enjoy your bike - both riding and upgrading

Not sure what happened with the photo - it looks normal on my laptop but somehow got stretched when posted. I'll play with that later and see if I can get a better photo posted.

Everything I've read had the weight for a M/L frame at about 19lbs. I'm on a M frame, and with the wheels switched, I would guess about 18. Haven't weighed it yet. The motor can use some more wattage and a few pounds so I'm not too worried about being a weight weenie (yet).
