Doused myself in DEET Cutter stuff and tested a night time setup for finish line camera.
Failed.
Need probably 500w-1000w lights, not 100w. I'll go get them tomorrow but I can't test until during the race itself.

I have four 500w floodlights, two with bases, two that mount to a tripod stand. You have my number.

Thanks. I realized I have a set too but I need to get a taller stand going. I'm thinking now, will go to where I used to work and figure something out. How exciting.
8 PM scheduled finish means it'll be pretty dark out (sunset will be 10-12 minutes before). It'll be interesting.

In other words there are riders (probably not in the P123s but still) that will come up to the officials convinced they were robbed of their 5th spot when in fact they got 23rd. Or 39th and 43rd. Etc. Usually it's the lower categories.
Also I had a dead heat in one race, P123, for the win, for the win of a Series. We had no camera back then and I've been presented with various angle shots of the finish proving both riders beat the other. I showed someone the finish line camera footage after he came up to me with a spectator picture showing that he did better (I think it was for the win). The side shot clearly showed he was 6-12" behind. He walked away satisfied.
I'm doing the finish camera work. I want everyone to be satisfied.

Argh!
Typical, 2 new frames arrived in the house last week and I was wondering when the ball would drop....
Last night, noticed it was a tad on the warm side inside the house...Didn't make sens since we have A/C...Checked the thermostat and it was set at 23C, house was sitting at 25C...That's not right...Opened the back door to see if the unit was working and it was was, but it was making a gawd awful sound! Shut'r down and called the service guys...
Working from home today waiting for his/her arrival and hoping for the best, but expecting the worst...
Luckily it's late summer in Ontario and even though the days have been warm, verging on hot, the nights cool down nicely...

that'll be the backup plan.

It was pretty awful video, but she was able to identify everyone. It took a couple of weeks and she had to have several of us watch the video and point people out.

So, a buddy of mine went out to Colorado to watch the races. He rode up to the top of Independence Pass. I actually saw him on TV running alongside the field.
Then he crashed on the way down. Apparently he had to be airlifted out with facial fractures and a concussion. I hear he will be OK.

Si.
Holy crap, that sucks. I hope he recovers quickly.
Last year, we rode up from Aspen. I was the only one to get to the top (the others were too slow and were stopped by officials as the race was approaching). If you remember that it rained on the descent to Aspen last year (TVG knew the roads well and thinned the herd on the descent). I was left descending that thing with probably 3000 cyclists in the rain. There were several crashes. Crazy stuff.

When we came down from watching the ToC on Mt Baldy there were drunks in the steep hairpin turns trying to high five us as we rode by.
Later, when the road straightened with a 9% slope, all the butts were in the air. I just stayed to the right, not willing to mix it up with who knows who.

Same here. I had all my camera gear in my pack, and was not going to go down. There's a time for racing down wet roads, and that wasn't it.

My wife always videos the finish of my races on her phone. We have used those recordings more than once this year to confirm results.
grilled cheesus
i rode up IP and did that descent into Aspen back in 2009 as part of a bike tour. holy crap it was so stressful going down. i recall the top being very technical for this flatlander. plus the roads were open to traffic. when i could smell burnt rubber i just had to let it go and ride it out. so tense, but so fun. i think. later.
