I don't have a C&V fendered bike, but my 2011 Allez wears Crud Roadracer MkIIs and is getting most of my miles this year (mainly because I keep the Powertap wheelset on it). I won't ride in a thunderstorm, but light rain and wet roads are fine. I don't want to use my steel bikes in such conditions...I know it was common back in the day, but why risk my steel bikes when aluminum doesn't rust?

My soon-to-be-finished (FINALLY!) commuter is a 2008 Giant FCR3 flat bar road bike converted to drop bars, and it'll wear fenders, and is aluminum as well.

No, I wouldn't ride my be-fendered bikes in the rain. If I did that, the insides of the fenders would get wet and dirty.

I've found that if you lower the fender, the tire will clean the insides off.

Tom is kidding, but I'm not. They are just there for fashion. They don't get wet. We don't get much rain here, and when we do we know it's coming days ahead.

calstar, I don't like fenders, yet I have a pair for my touring bike that I mount and dismount according to the weather forecast. I've just never developed an appreciation for fenders beyond their utility.

I ride the Atala every day as a commuter, unless it's really pouring outside. My favorite time to have fenders is when it's not raining anymore, but the road is just a little damp and covered with grit. Bike comes home mostly clean, instead of a gunky mess.

Plus, I get to feel all smug when it starts to rain during the after-work group ride and I'm the only person with fenders.

I'm 6'2", and if I'm riding my be-fendered Allez in a paceline and it's raining, I'm a really popular guy.

Yes. Since my commuters are a motley collection of generally 1970s regular bikes and 1990 - 2000s recumbents and have mudguards, they get ridden in the rain. I try not to ride my nice non-fendered road-bikes in the rain but will if I get caught out.

Come to think of it, Im not really sure why i still own it except to post on the internet and occationally show off to friends who dont give a ****. Im gonna go cut myself.

I do use my fender bike in the rain and I also like fenders for gravel - it helps keep the rocks from scratching the DT. I'm relatively new to fenders but I definitely like them.

Not to sound like to total smartass but why would you put fenders on your bike if you aren't planning on riding it in wet weather??

Very nice bike. I had a Prestige that was too small for me and have been searching for a replacement since.

Most of my bikes have fenders. Not all puddles are from rain water I do have a couple of fair weather queens that are fendered, prefer not to ride them in the rain, but if I get caught out, so be it.

Sometimes you don't "put" fenders on. The bike comes with them. I like mine stock.

I've been riding in the rain (light), and lately catching rides in some pretty puddle-ridden gravel paths, which make up my daily.

bike sees 50% gravel/dirt, so for that the fenders are serving some benefit.

I admit I don't polish the fenders as much as I should, and i've butchered the fitment with 45mm wide fenders on this slack road frame.. its 28c tires concealed and it doesn't appear much larger will squeeze thru.

Mudguards are made from a Dollarama car floor mat.

Riding is an addiction for me. I used to use rain as an excuse for a day off. Then I put fenders on my Moser and now I'm riding about 20-25 more days a year.

After a 180-mile charity ride in the pouring rain I set up this Miyata just to ride in the wet.

Any bike I'm actually going to ride is going to have fenders.

Fenders are at their best when the roads are wet, like after a rain, or in light rain, drizzle, heavy fog, &c. That's a nice time to ride if you have fenders, but it sucks if you don't.

It's actually a lot of fun to get caught in a heavy downpour on a warm summer day, but it's no fun riding to work in heavy rain. But in that kind of rain fenders don't really do much good.

Another time for fenders - winter with salt on the ground. It keeps it off of my tubes.
