Bought TWO 1988 Schwinn Travelers that were destined for the garbage if they didnt sell for just 10 dollars!! One was too big for me and the other was too small. Dang. Got them up and ridable and then passed both of them on to people just starting out in road biking for about what I had in them. Hopefully that will bring good bike karma and I can find something in my size.
And my 1951 clubman bought for less than 51 dollars as long as I promised "to fix it up and ride it." A promise easily kept.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Was found and lost and never thought I would track this bike down... and then it re-appeared a year later and I took it home for whopping $100.00 because it really needed a good home and conservator and was not so much about the money.
All I have done was re-tape the bars, change the saddle, and restore the fenders... bike was and still is mechanically perfect, every mark speaks to a lifetime of use by it's one original owner.
1955 Raleigh Lenton, Reg Harris road model

Same smoking deal as my Lenton... although I have done more work on the bike to get the parts right.

I don't think anyone can be called a thread winner only just on the second page. I have a bunch of smokin' deals to post up, but will probably spread them out over a period of a few posts.
First is probably my best and the one that got me hooked. Two 25" Paramounts (my size) and a box of vintage parts for a little over $300 from the original owner. I just realized that I need to label my flickr pictures better for easy searching just for threads like this. I couldn't find the pic of all the parts spread out on the garage floor and only found the pics of the frame sets as I bought them. A few highlights of the parts: steel adjustable track stem, Cinelli steel track stem, 2 pairs Cinelli steel track drops, high flange Record hubs in box, Campagnolo track pedals in box (basically new!), and a bunch of other assorted mostly Campagnolo parts. I still own the P14, but sold the P13 this year because I didn't ride it anymore.
72 P13 as found:
76 P14 as found:
And, how about a non-vintage screaming deal: Ridley Crossbow with Dura Ace/Ultegra drivetrain for $30 at a police auction. No one had a clue about bikes and were spending more on Huffys and Magnas!!! This is the pic I took for selling it after downgrading for extra profit. It came with 9 speed Dura Ace shifters, front, and rear derailleurs. I pulled the 9 speed Ultegra off my Eddy Merckx and swapped the DA to my EM and the Ultegra to the Ridley. When I got the bike it had a Ti railed Flite (sold for $40), Thompson seat post too short for me (sold for $40), and an ultra long Ritchey WCS stem (kept it). After all this parts swapping and "downgrading" I sold it to a friend for $650. And, yes he actually knows what I paid for the bike. After I told him he had some choice words that can't be repeated. We are still friends in case anyone is wondering.
And, some future posts to come maybe: $40 Reynolds 531 Cilo, $24 73' Raleigh RRA, pickup truck full of parts for $200, gas pipe Armstrong for $25, Gitane Track bike for $120, and probably some I don't remember right now.

1954/5 Bianchi Campione del Mondo - I paid $80 to a fellow I met by chance.
I bought it in the mid 90's but sold it about 3 years ago when I had to downsize due to a move in location. It was just a little small for me.
It didn't look like this when I found it though - it needed a lot of careful cleaning.

It just occurred to me that this could be a very depressing thread for the C&V'ers who have not yet scored their own smokin' hot deal.
Oh well.
Keep 'em comin' guys!

I can't believe the deal I scored last night! I ran into a a guy in the park, he didn't seem to be doing very well as he was shaking and glassy eyed. He had a Raleigh International in great shape and, after a convulsion, he offered to sell it for $50. I told him the bike was 40 years old, had an old leather saddle and that I'd give him $25...he accepted! Bonus...he told me to come by his apartment and I could buy 10 front wheels, a bolt cutter and an angle grinder!
