I did a little searching last night, and evidently the Lazer helmets are fairly low-profile, even for the larger sizes. I'm actually waiting on an order at an LBS that happens to carry Lazer; I'm hoping that the call me today to let me know my piece is in - if so, I'll check out the Lazers while I'm there.

I tried one on at the LBS last night. For the price, it's very nice. In terms of mushroom headedness, it's a little better than my Specialized, but not enough to warrant a change only for the sake of vanity. A Lazer will be on the short list when I need to/should replace the Spec, though.

FWIW: The Giro Air Attack I recently got is 2 cm narrower and 2-3 cm shorter than the other Giro, Bell, and LG helmets I have...so the it's a bit smaller mushroom cap. In addition, the bottom edge curves inward a bit toward the head which reduced the mushroom effect a bit.

One helmet have I, hence a typically vented road model. The ventilation is excellent, if unwelcome when ambient dips under 60F, which is often the case here (and the humidity is high, hence chilling), howeeever, the ventilation is most welcome as ambient runs over 80F.
So, though it may be ugly, unfashionable, *edly, etc., so am I - the stretchy helmet cover provides: THE MOST warmth per volume in jersey pocket, ditto weight; between 1-6 seconds/mile of good ol' aero benefit; garish visibility; transformation from vented road to "aero" road helmet.
See you out there ...waaay out there.

This article made me think of this thread.
Interesting take by an anonymous pro. Paragraph 7 is where the aero-road helmet discussion begins.

My next helmet for sure. Pretty much solves the problem of prescription sun glasses, and looks frikken cool.

I remember seeing guys wear ones that looked like this back in the 80’s. Giro had the best looking helmet out of them all, and I can’t understand what they’re doing. Riders will say in public that they benefit from “marginal gains” with their aerodynamics, but really nobody cares. If you have the legs, then you’ll win. Simple as that. No helmet is going to make a difference with all the other variables thrown in there.

Ain' complainin' pal.
Me have one helmet, which serves in all conditions, +/- the aforementioned stretchy "aero" cover.
Enjoy your cheese.

I may be nuts, been accused of it before, but I was looking at the Air Attack online again and came across the Giro Reverb. I kind of like that one too, except for the built in cycling cap visor. Again, no big swooping, pointy bits on top. Simple, clean look. I really do hope this is the direction helmet styling is going. Only $50 too, as opposed to $200 for the Air Attack.

A teammate recently posted a FB picture of his new Giro aero helmet. He was roundly mocked, mostly due to his history of trying to buy speed.

Understandable mocking in that case. For me, the appeal has noting to do with speed. I know I'm slow! Of course, not that it is a fashion show, as I'm too fat for that too. Personal taste in design I guess.

Plus, he bought a black one. A black, minimally vented helmet in an area that typically gets over 100F during the summer. So there's that.

I tried out the Air Attack but still got some bad mushroom head from it. Nothing like I was expecting after seeing it online. I ended up going with a Kask.
