Make sure you let us know when you finish that project, I'm sure it'll be awesome. I might have to change the stem but for comfort reasons, 120mm might be a tad bit too long for this bike. I would love to get a cinelli grammo but I don't think they made them for 31.8 bars and I don't know how silver would look either.

I believe I see an area on the DS stay that can separate.

The bent mtb frame look is vintage... these were built almost 25 years ago, albeit with a straight oval top tube.

That is a cool bike, I like at lot. I personally liked the WTF for more utilitarian reasons. It can be set up with fenders, it has braze-ons for a front and rear rack, etc.

Not the best picture but you can see where you would slip a belt through the frame.

I'm digging this. Only thing I don't like is that the whole 52mm thing. I find this to be a commonly mis-reported figure in cycling land. 2.0" is equal to 50.8mm, 2.1" = 53.34. I wanted to run a 2.1 WITH a fender on my new bike, but it didn't work out. It was my first bike and there were a lot of constraints in the materials available, time and the willingness of the instructor. There is a lot less selection in the 2.0 world and knobs often make the tire bigger so 52mm = a 2.0 if it doesn't have large side knobs or run too big. Not harping on anyone here, just pointing that out.

From Van Dessel website description: "700x52c—that’s 29x2.1 in case you’re wondering" well, no it isn't really. I'd be curious to see what the clearance actually looks like. I can get a 2.1 in my new frame but it will rub climbing out of the saddle for sure so I will run a 2.0 or 1.95 if I can find something like that (a 700x 50mm tire).

This isn't a problem for the OP at all just an annoyance of mine with these new bikes touted as monster cross. They claim this 29er versatility but the reality is they are severely limited to less than half of what is available in the 29er tire market to the 2.0 and smaller tires. Still I think it is cool and I will probably be happy with a nice 2.0 like the continental race king.

That thing is brighter than my Cracknfail 29er. Mine is definitely a safety thing. I crash enough people need to be able to see me down over the bank.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that Van Dessel is always closed. They're closed on every Sunday, and that's the day of the week when I go to Mendham for a choral rehearsal.

No worries, but I have called them twice, got their voicemail and never heard back. Their twitter said something about a bike show in Tokyo, maybe they all went out for a tour of asia.

Nice bike!
That's how I got it. I will probably change it for comfort but I personally don't mind the white. I'll probably get a black one unless there is some else cool and not too heavy (the bike is heavy enough already).

Cool bike. Reminds me of my very first bike as a kid, some Schwinn model with a curved top tube, except it was red. I like the shocking gree color though

What's really great is that you're visible to the drivers, texters and crossers on the busy streets of Chicago! Love the color and design of the frame, have lot of fun!
