Basking Ridge brings back memories. Visited Bell Labs there back before the breakup of Bell. Lots of pocket protectors.

Nice race!

Nice, gsteinb!

Glad that you got OTF and stayed upright. Sounds like a great day.

Hard racing, Valygrl. You did really well under tough conditions. You're gracious as well to the 12 year old. I'm glad she was okay. You did "keep the rubber side up" in the crit, didn't you? I know, I know! Proud of you, woman, you race hard and leave it out there. Way to go!

valygrl, I think the confusion is from your use of the phrase "stay rubber side up." It's typically, "Keep the rubber side down," as in contact with the pavement.

Regardless, sorry to hear about your crash but glad that it wasn't worse.

Mixing classes is definitely an issue around the country. Last week we had a bit of an email storm regarding our 55+/60+ races and Cat 5 Masters. My race yesterday -- Master Men 55+, Masters Men 60+, Women Cat 1-3 -- ended up with three (3) Junior Women in it. Fortunately, they are very experienced racers, but you can tell that they aren't used to the dynamics of a men's race. Fortunately, all of us kept the rubber side down.

Last omnium of the Wednesday night series last night. The whole series was a lot of fun, but looking forward to the keirin and omniums coming up at Carson to end the year.

Won two out of three events at the track tonight in the Cat 3/4 races. I felt like crap from cyclo cross practice and MTB the past two days but still got the Omnium and $. Next week the series finishes out with races on Friday and Saturday. So far I won 3 of 4 Omnium's in the series.

I need to cut the cord with cross. I don't like racing it and the training rips me up. It's just that the race scene is so cool. I will miss the first race this weekend as I'm going to our cabin in PA and going fishing for a few days.

First race in the book, not completely happy with my results. But anytime I finish is a good day. Race was a women's open run with tHe junior's. several strong juniors but they could not hold a line in the corners. I found myself really digging after each corner. After the few laps the legs lost their snap. I continued to dig and picked off other shelled riders. Made me feel good that othersmcould not hold my wheel. When all said and done 5th place against younger gals. I am happy...

nice work colonelmom! AJey - do you have any team mates racing cross? My cross season consists of water handups, cowbell ringing and 16-oz bicep curls.

Yes I do have team mates doing cyclo cross races. My team is mostly masters age and they do cross, mtb and road racing. One of my close team mates just bought into being a race series promoter with all the equipment. He also rearranged the age groupings to have a 55+ division and has gotten sponsorships for decent prize money. That's where I am torn. I want to be there because it's fun and social but racing with my fused ankle any "off the bike work" comes back to haunt me for days after the race. I need to work on my cowbell ringing and beer handup skills.

Now, that kind of season I could get into. Unfortunately, the nearest cyclocross race is >200 miles each way.
