I'm 35 years old. I have a 20" Redline I beat around on. I started riding it more on a home-made dirt track and kinda like it. I would like to upgrade but should I stick with the 20" wheel size or go to the 24" BMX bikes? I am on the shorter size if that means anything.

I have a Redline signature cruiser 24" and I love it! Just as much fun on the dirt jumps as a 20" and not such a pain to ride home after.

I have the Redline MX-20 which I understand is the economy end of Redline. We have a good Redline dealer close by and I would like to give him my business. I have bought from Dans Comp, but never for complete bikes. I will give the 24-inchers a look.

I am 40. I ride both 20" and 24". To enjoy life to the fullest, you need both but, as an all purpose BMX, I would go with a 20".

Thanks for the replies. I put the MX-20 up in the stand over the weekend. The brakes are toast, at least the cable and lever are. I can have a full replacement kit for $15 from Dan's. I noticed the chain is ready to fall apart and the entire rear hub has a very slight wobble. Note that my older boys had ridden this bike for the past few years. So do I buy a rebuild kit for this bike? Or buy another for myself? Not sure what direction to take on this one....

It certainly sounds like your MX-20 is easily repairable. However, a new bike is going to be much much nicer. It just depends on your budget.

steve-in-kville. Im 48 and ride both a 20 inch and a 24, I have to admit the 24 is much more......"me" than the 20. Don't get me wrong the 20 was great when I was in my teens/early 20s, still is, but when you get older things change dude, things change. and yes, the BMX forum seems to be breathing its last breaths. Hope it pics up again.

Im 40 and just started racing and dirt jumping after~20 years hiatus from bmx. I ride both 20 and 24 and cant make up my mind which is better. However one thing is for certain...its easier to go from a 20 up to a 24 but going the other way, from a 24 to a 20 feels sketchy. Thats why i practice almost exclusively on my 20, and race both.

I am gonna get the Redline up and rolling and then look at adding a 24" to the stable. Already have a substantial order ready for some other parts/goodies.

I'm 38 and ride both a 20" and a 24'. When I rode a 20" PRO XL frame, I liked the 24" fit better. But now I ride a 20" PRO XXL frame and I enjoy it more then the 24". Plus the Criuser class is just too fast for me.

I agree, but if only one is an option... Depends how tall and what kind of shape you are in.

The idea that cruisers are for taller people is a misconception. Frames in both categories are built to accomodate people of all sizes. My 20 and 24 handle differently, but they fit me exactly the same. A lot of older riders are on cruisers, not because they fit better, but because the large wheel size makes the bike handle more like a mountain bike, that is to say, it is less twitchy.

This year I picked up a Haro Steel Reserve 26" frame. I through a 24" wheel on the back and it's been pretty fun. Sort of a cross between a Park BMX and a cruiser. Almost exactly what I was shooting for, and it's slack!

This is just the opposite of what some of the Cruiser forum posters are complaining about. After you are 20 years or and up there should be serious 26 and 29er racing and not skinny 40 year olds on 20s running around city streets...THIS IS WRONG.

I'm much shorter than those riders (5'8"). 20s would kill my knees. Your mileage would obviously VARY.
