That White Indistries crank looks like a great innovation.

As far as the existing QR pedals go, I've tried both MKS EZY Superior and Wellgo/xPedo and much prefer the Wellgo QR interface.

You'll see the difference once you have them in your hand.. I use both the MKS EZ and the Wellgo xPedo in both platform and clipless .. the finish is better on the MKS .. setup of the xPedo is a little trickier as you have to position the q/r release in an optimum position (there are supplied pedal washers in different thicknesses) ... underway, a slight annoyance can happen with the xPedo with regards to the q/r release .. as it is solid mounted to the crank, with platform pedals you could get interference with a large shoe as you pedal at a point in the rotation.. using clipless, I don't experience the annoyance.. some of the xPedo pedals are pretty light .. I have used the MKS EZ extensively over the past few years (and I have a good inventory of extra couplers) and I have used the xPedo much of last year... I like the look of the MKS pedals better, but in use (particularly clipless) I don't have a strong preference ..

This thread is getting a bit derailed into a Wellgo versus MKS discussion... but... getting back to the original topic of the new White Industries Quick Draw cranks with their QR pedal inserts: Are these actually for sale anywhere?

I did a little googling and found some discussions about them, but nobody seems to be selling them (thor included).

Maybe I should just inquire directly about getting a set to "long term test" too? I do have one of their shiny front hubs on my Jetstream already...

I've experienced the same things Bruce. In fact, Wellgo was nice enough to send me some free pedals after their quick release button chewed up the sides of my tennis shoes. No issues with their clipless styles, but I rather prefer MKS for platforms. The one thing that irks me about the MKS are the "safety clips". I've lost almost all of them at some point, and they've even fallen off before, which led to the pedal pulling out during a ride. Scary.

Spinning off a pedal with a pedal or allen wrench will have to do.. for me ,
think occasionally of the upgrade from steel to Ti
for the core plug on the Brompton left pedal , because it's an allen wrench to remove it,**
but I got a 24mm socket and ground the edge down so it grabs right at the end,
to engage the thin shoulder of the standard steel hex faced core ..
they screw and shoulder ..thru the big bearing into the arm.

Update: warrantee replacement pedal in hand ,

either of 2 allen wrench sizes ** 8mm on the front. 6mm, 0n the back side..

reading the instructions: an earlier Titanium one used a 10mm allen on the outside

I assume the back was solid, then..

I think what bored117 was referring to is Wellgo's QRD Crank. It's similar to the White Industries crank but only works with Wellgo QRD pedals. Go to this page (Flash required to view) and flip to page 3 to see the crank. However, I have no idea whether the product has been released. Interestingly enough, on the same page there's a VP Components quick release pedal which doesn't seem to be in the market either.

Oh wow! This is exactly what I need. I can't ride without clipless pedals (tried it, feels weird), so I'll be putting my Speedplay Frogs on my new Brompton when it arrives. In the meantime, can anyone tell me the length of the stock Brompton cranks? I am going to contact White Industries and find out if I can buy just the left crank, as I won't need to be able to quick release the right pedal, and if they say I can, I want to order the correct length.

Brompton cranks are 170mm.

Be careful, alternative cranks may foul the Brompton's frame when riding or folded and/or may mess up the chainline.

I recently purchased one of those fine QR cranks directly from White Industries in California. Got them on my travel bike now. They look stunning and work as expected.
One thing that concerns me a bit is the fact that the brass quick release pieces have a tiny bit of play when I try to wiggle them with my hand. I'm thinking how this will hold up after 10s of thousand kilometers (it's a travel bike after all and they are made for those). I am thinking the aluminum of the crank arm is prone to wear out if the brass jack is getting stressed in a circular movement 3-4k times a day with plenty of load and 0.1mm of play.
What do you think?

It's now 3 years after Eurobike 2010... I'm curious how those White Industries Quick Draw cranks have served you over the years?

Still holding up OK?

Are these cranks really heavy when compared to stock (let's say Dahon) cranks with Wellgo or MKS quick release adapters/pedals?

not heavy... I kept them in new pristine condition, actually have them on a project bike ..more later.
Dont think that there will be any wear as there is no load on the slider ...
