Sweden Gives Commuters Free Bikes

"A city in Sweden is testing a new program they hope will slash the number of cars on the road. The government is giving away free bikes for six months to three dozen test cyclists. All they have to do in return is promise to use the two-wheelers instead of cars at least three times a week. The test cyclists include students, commuters, parents and children."

To me she looks like she is concentrating on a straight path in the midst of a larger group.

The people here are kind of quietly proud of this stuff, I think. They are excellent at being self deprecating, but people here are overwhelmingly happy.

Nothing new. Several European countries have 'bicycle to work' initiatives. In the Netherlands it used to be employees could buy a new bike every three years on this, if their employer took part in the 'Nationale fietsenplan'. Nowadays the state picks up 52% of the bill - up to certain point.

I have said ; The Novice Cyclist may have a happy, care-free look on his or her face, but the Cyclist who has travelled 100,000 miles or more , has the look of Grim Determination, on their face.

If you have lost the thrill, I feel bad for you. But most of us still find joy in cycling, even after many years and many miles.

Hard to be thrilled at 11 pm when the weather is 33 degrees and raining. IMO determination is what takes you to that next level.

That sounds nice. It doesn't get that warm here most of the year.

Lol... I never really see cycling for transportation as all that difficult. Occasionally weather and willpower reach an ebb, but most of the time it's still a blast for me.
