Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No. Its not designed to take wide tires. Commuter bikes tend to be built more robustly than a road bike.

Not for UCI weigh ins, they make you take off all electronics that are not essential to the operation of the cycle...even the cycle computer has to come off.

Nice rig but pointless for racing.

anyway, it's nice to see that manufacturer's are not reluctant to ignore the UCI rules.
I once took a coworker to a company paid dinner, where i picked the place on google. I didn't know I had picked a place as fancy as it was, I only picked it because it had 5 star reviews on google. the guy asked if we had a reservation. and to lend perspective, we pulled up in my jaded honda civic, wearing regular tshirts and shorts. we didn't have a reservation, and he sat us down because the place was almost empty. waiter offered to take my friend's hat, which he was still wearing, and he was so nervous that he just said uh no, and threw it on the ground next to him. we stuck out like a ****ing sore thumb. everyone else was wearing fancy ass clothes, except for this surgeon who came in from work dressed in work clothes. I had 6 utensils, no freaking idea what the difference is between the big fork and the little forks. All I needed was one damn fork, and maybe a knife. the bill was like 135 or something before tip. but company paid for it. Thanks Mr. Koch. hehehhehehehe

Haha, and Domane and Madone sound any better? It is appealing to my inner weightweenie though. The SLR6 coming in at 14.55lbs compares very well to the SL4 and the R3 (16.01lbs or so) from Cervelo.

Yeah, Trek needs to get more creative with the names instead of putting the letters in Madone in different orders. Watch the next one will be something along the lines of Namode.

I hope they become legal full time, but you won't see them at the TDF this year.

18.5lb sounds heavy for a Carbon bike with ultegra, unless $2,600 is a good deal. I know the Cervelo R3 with 105 components costs that much but you can get them for around $2,200 at year end.

I would have assumed the bike would be closer to the 17lb range. Doesn't a CAAD 10 ultegra weigh less than 18? And that's aluminum! And 400 bucks less.

The Emonda comes in three framesets, S, Sl, and SLR, the S frame is 1220 grams, so just around the weight of the CAAD10 frame. The S is definitely not a weight weenie bike.

Not really.

The frame is a claimed 690 grams. The Cannondale Evo, Argon 18 Gallium Pro, Scott Addict, Cervelo R5 VWD, Ridley Helium SL... are all reported to weigh 750 - so 60 grams or 8 percent of weight savings. I wouldn't say that's far lighter. And many of those frames can be had for less than the $4,200 Trek is charging.

And any of those frames can be built to about 10 pounds with the same components Trek is spec'ing on its Emonda.

Shimano asked for and got an exception for ToC, they're still normally not legal.

Yup, and you're not even pointing out the ultralight versions of those frames. The claimed weight on the Evo Black is 655g (though it measures a touch heavier than that IIRC), while the R5 RCA has a claimed weight of 667g. Both are close to or lighter than the Emonda, so it's definitely not far lighter than the lightest offering of any other maker

Totally agree with this. When I built my Look 675 I wasn't even thinking about weight but rather using quality components and it came out to 14.8 pounds. I can easily lose 4-5 pounds on a century ride...

More than a brand new honda civic. 23-27k but also has more power and creature comforts.

Totally off topic, but I wear jeans and tshirts to most fancy restaurants. Who gives a crap what I'm wearing if I have the money to eat there. The people that dress up for that crap are either at a business dinner or only go to a nice restaurant once in a blue moon. Sticking out like a sore thumb is my middle finger to the man!

On topic...2 points to Trek for not putting their logo in giant red letters on the side. I dig the low key look. Jens was talking on twitter yesterday about his teammates riding these in the Tour this year. Said they're a really nice bike.

.

I used to think like that until I turned 18. Going to the most expensive steak house with flip flops and T shirt etc. Who cares if you got the money right? That is what is wrong with the world today. Now, I dress nice to be polite to others and to contribute to a nice atmosphere and ambiance for people who are there to have a pleasant time. It's good to be relaxed about etiquette but there is also a level of class that should portray respect to the people around you, remember, they are looking at you not vice versa. Nothing worse than having Lil' John show up at your local family restaurant with his 7 hookers showing half their ass and getting the best service imaginable because they can afford to pay a $10k meal...

All money and no class. Don't mock those who dress well to look good even to go to Cici's pizza, they deserve more respect than the gorilla who lights $100 bills on fire with Kush rolled Philly blunts.

PS. Snobbery and stuck upiness is just as bad.

I was thinking the same thing. 1)There is no way this is a Trek. I only see one very subtle Trek logo and 2)decals must weigh too much.
