Hello, is this thing on? Dominic? Griffith?(i know yer neither of those two guys) but, who are you?
Also, you wanna go from a brick like a 1985 Schwinn World Sport, to a pursuit bike? Have you ever ridden a pursuit bike? Have you ever ridden a non pursuit, track bike? Yer a messenger in Cleveland so "everytime you get on yer bike its a time trial"? Dude gimme a break. What company are you working for? I guarantee you are not pulling more that 30 tags a day. 30 tags x $2.00(that's if you are riding for one of the better companies) is nuthin. I'm just mentioning this, because that seems like a lot of bike for someone doing a lot of sitting at 9th and Euclid, or in front of Tower City or Rocco's.

Exactly.
OP:
Dan Polito and old timer Joe Bringheli are two steel bike builders here in Cleveland. Anyone into bikes, here in Cleveland, who knows the difference between their a**hole and their earhole, knows one of these guys. If yer serious(i really suggest you ride one before buying one just because you think its "sexy") then you should contact one of them. They could build you something classic and nice. Hell, maybe they'd even build you something like that monstrosity that you posted a pic of, that pink thing. I'm telling you though, that thing is hella impractical.
Yer so lucky i don't work downtown anymore. hahahaha

i really love my leader. use it to commute to work, lots of hills but its light and agile enough to keep up with the roadies. really cant say enough how much i love this thing. thats my vote anyway.
commute is rough;y 13 miles each way with no discomfort btw

In my opinion, a full suspension lightweight mtn bike is the ultimate urban rocket. You may spend a couple more seconds on one between stops but, you can bomb through about any obstacle. Hit a pothole going 30mph on a skinny tire pursuit bike and you may be fixing a flat or replacing a wheel.

tmonk made me laugh
this sounds expensive for a commuter. Also full suspension on the street sounds dumb. If you lock out the shocks you lose the point of full suspension. If you don't lock out the shock you are literally bouncing all over the place. whats the point?

Yeah, suspension on the street, even on very rough roads is kinda dumb. An old rigid mtb with fat tires with a road tread run at low pressures goes a long way to solving this problem.

Going that way a cx bike makes sense. It can handle the rough stuff, but still comes close to the speed of a roadbike.

Fresh Garbage
A nice rigid MTB with drop bars is plenty fast, maneuverable, and can take some fatty tires. I loved mine except I cannablized it for other projects.

i have a landshark timeshark. how much money u got?
whats all this talk about potholes and hitting them at 30mph? avoid them. i regularly ride home down wilshire in la on this maintaining 20mph. i dont sit at reds because like any smart rider i time them so im rolling on the green.
what do u need suspension for on paved roads? granted theres a few streets in LA that are rough, but there's also many others to ride on instead. besides, ppl romanticize on how stiff "pursuit/tt" frames actually are. they arent meant to be stood up and cranked on like track bikes. notice the lax headtube angle soaks up bumps quite well.

That is quite a pie plate in the front. Doesn't look fun for any kind of uphill.

53x15. its not so bad as long as you're not catching every red light or stopping at every stop sign. .the idea is to get up to speed and stay there. plus i ride that gear with a front brake (saves energy)
brakeless the highest i can ride safely, and capable of skidding ambidextrously is 44x15 .
its relatively flat over here in west la with a few sprinters hills. if i wanna go climb n bomb hills i have a bareknuckle for that.
ftr these era of funny bikes handle like ****. its a fun second bike, but not ideal whatsoever as ur only bike.
