THIS is what we as cyclists do not do, for the reason shown...

What's weird is your assumption that I was speaking about a "definition" rather than a point, especially considering that I specifically used the word "point".

I've cycled extensively in NYC and Philfy and I can assure you that the finger is far more commonly used there than in flyover or the left coast. In fact, you could say that I enjoy the way east coast pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers sometimes...erm...communicate...

If a driver tries to assault me with their vehicle or their person, they'll get more than they bargained for. My first aid kit contains a 124 grain medicine dispenser that cures violent buttheaditis.

Well, that doesn't make sense.
That you don't intend to insult when using what is nearly always understood to be a insult is crazy.
You thinking that you are "letting them know they screwed up" is dilusional. You fail in your "point" (purpose) because you aren't communicating it: you are using the wrong "words".
If you know it's an insult, then using it with the "point" of not being an insult is wacky.
Please, don't become a diplomat!

Grammatically you are somewhat incorrect. "Fighting" could be a gerund. A gerund is a noun made from a verb by adding "-ing." An example is "Pardon me for interrupting all the A&S fighting." where "fighting" is the object of the sentence. "Interrupting" is not a gerund, though it ends in "-ing". It is a present participle, i.e. a verb.
You may now return to your confrontation.

You know what? We need a couple of volunteers to settle this. One to ride during rush hour, flipping birds and shouting imprecations at passing motorists, and another hanging back a discrete distance recording results.

Wait... is DC going to be a volunteer motorist in this test?
If so, I'm double in.

I've observed that a lot of folks here have impressive points. I wonder how they can find a helmet that fits.

I understood what you wrote. It's wrong in a basic way.
The whole "technically, it's safe if there happens to be no contact" is just wrong. It's actually kind of crazy.
By your bizarro logic, driving drunk is safe as long as you don't hit anything.
In fact, technically, drunk driving is not safe because it increases the risk/probabilty of an accident occurring.
The purpose of talking about what is "safe" is to prevent bad outcomes. You weirdly keep claiming that one can only determine what is safe after the fact. Which is silly and useless.
And, that does not mean the pass was safe. It's silly to keep claiming that it does.
According to you, in every place that has a "three foot" law, the safe distance is three feet but everywhere else, it's any distance that happens to not be a collision.
The assault is a better reason.
It appears that every discussion of what is a specific safe distance is at least three feet. It's either no standard or that one.
If the standard of safety is to wear a helmet. That doesn't mean that standard doesn't exist if you don't wear a helmet. The safety standard of helmets doesn't need a law requiring them to exist as a standard.
You are saying it's fine for drivers to get as close as they want as long as they don't hit them.
Truly bizarre.

There is no standard... only what you think should exist... but does not.

It's only legally acceptable if they are threatening you with lethal force...such as a bat, knife, or a car. I'm a big ol' boy, I'd have had no problem defending myself against that jerk in the truck without resorting to a firearm.

I'll bet the guy in the OP video would do it. Who here lives in his area?

That's a distinct possibility.......... I've watched a few motorists slow down, and attempt to pull over, but I think that where I always went wrong, was to jump out of the saddle and hard onto the pedals whenever I see them attempt to pull over, since they end up speeding away.

Yeah come to NYC cyclists and cars often use colorful language to make our mutual dislike clear. Very few people get beaten as a result. The people claiming the cyclist is caused this are rejecting how reality works.

You do understand that what happens in NYC may not reflect what happens in say Atlanta or LA, right?
