Any other cassete that will fit on a freehub made for SRAM red???
I impulsively bought some Easton EA90 SLX wheels off ebay for a very cheap price, and much to my shock the freehub it came with is specifically for SRAM Red cassette. Now I don't really want to spend $300 on a cassette or $150 on a new freehub to take a shimano cassette.
Does anyone know of any other cheaper cassette that will fit on here, or a creative way of getting a shimano cassette onto this hub???

Wow, that's news to me. Your best bet might be to contact Easton and buy a different free hub body. They're made out of ****ty aluminum anyway, so it's a wear item. It's a near certainty you can get a replacement for regular shimano / SRAM cassettes.

The splines are only at the top and bottom (apparently the sram red is a one piece unit) - shimano cassettes need them all the way along. I have no idea why they would make a specific one like this and not just use a standard shimano/sram one. Maybe to save 10g of weight ???

Me too. I was already to post from the thread title that any Shimano or Sram cassette would work.
What a dumbass way to make a freehub. Save 6 grams, and create a significant compatability problem.

I had a Easton EC90SL that was Shimano/Sram compatible. The shop didn't have a Sram cassette so I purchased Ultegra cassette. It was a very tight fit.
BTW, my Zipp 303s have had Red and Dura Ace cassettes on it with no problems.

Well, if you don't want to switch the freehub, you could always keep an eye out for a deal on the Red cassette. I bought mine in May for $185, of course, it's now back up to $250 on Amazon. Ribble has it for $200 though.

As for SRAM Red, for those of you who aren't familiar with it - the splines only exist under the largest cog. Most cassettes seem to have the largest 3 cogs or so joined together - the Red cassettes are milled from a single piece of metal. Pretty slick and no, I would never in a million years buy a freehub that only works with a red cassette.

They are truly magnificent. And if you have a standard splined freehub body, they don't damage it even if it is soft aluminum. Buy take offs on ebay.

Yes, maybe, it wasn't specified (But then again I didn't ask).
Still pretty happy - paid AU $99 (US$70) and they are basically new , so even with having to shell out for a new hub it still works our quiet well (and we pay heaps more bike parts here than in the US).
But back to my original questions - does anyone know of any cheaper cassettes that will fit on here??

Once again, why aren't you going to your LBS or calling Easton to order just the freehub body? You don't need a new hub, just the splined part. The wheel doesn't have to be rebuilt. The whole changeover takes like five minutes.

Yes, that is what I have ended up doing...the principle of it just p***s me off that I have had spend more on this stupid part than the whole wheelset cost me .

Ended up buying a DA cassette on Craigslist- the whole business was still a bargain.
Also, the hack to deal with bearing pre-load adjuster is working great, if not looking elegant.
