New bike - and this one IS different from all the others!
In two weeks I'll have it in my garage and it will get a LOT of use in the next 3-4 months. And this one's so different I will be playing the part of the uninitiated newbie when it comes to kitting it out just right.

I was looking around for more pics, but nothing with any more detail. Sorry - and not trying to tease, but I won't get the bike until 3 October when I head on over to Ellensburg for the Manastash Metric Century.
That's 'cause scozim is passing along to me his 1996 Klein Pulse II. Yeti repainted it for the first owner about a year after that guy bought it. Apparently it once wore that Klein-signature flo-orange and the color was too bright for the guy. Scott got it around 2009 and the guy hadn't ridden it for nearly 10 years. A couple of summers ago I got the opportunity to ride it up in the hills above Ellensburg and once I got the seatpost height sorted I had a great day out on it. Nice to be somewhat familiar with it.
I'd been in cahoots with RaleighSport recently, trying to find a semi-vintage hardtail and he'd been checking out CL for me, giving me ideas on bikes/components/prices to be looking for. I figured it would take some time to find my exact match in an MTB. Then, out of the blue Scott contacted me the other day offering this for sale. What could I say? The price is right, there's little to do to the bike other than personalize it a smidgen and again - I'm already familiar with it. Score
I will be adding a second wheelset with slicks for the road and looking for a backup pair of knobbies, too. I'll also need a pair of bar ends. But that's pretty much it. I foresee a lot of riding my local FS roads and such this winter. I plan on attaching a seatpost-mount rear rack for my trusty trunk bag - might do an overnight in the wilderness with this as my conveyance here and there over the next few months. All I know for sure is that I don't want to stop riding over the winter when the weather turns to crap and this will ensure I still get out and about. Really looking forward to exploring this facet of the cycling experience!!

Okay, here's the current spec: Everything is Deore LX except the rear derailleur which was upgraded to Deore XT. Bontrager stem and Ritchey seatpost. Fork is Rock Shox Judy XC, wheels are 26" Matrix with Deore LX hubs. That's straight from a couple FB PMs Scott sent me yesterday.
I already have plans to swap the saddle out with one of my two remaining Flite titanium saddles. I think that would be the perfect, minimalist saddle for this, plus it would be PC and they're comfortable - I used to run them exclusively from the early 90s until I began riding Concors and 3ttts in the mid-2000s. I also found a correct Pulse II decal set on Ebay.
I found a nice, new MTB thread here today, so hooray - more info to be gleaned! I really am offroad-stoopid, so any tidbits of wisdom will be appreciated

DD had been looking and, having ridden the bike in the past, it works out for everyone. Now, ask him about the "near death" experience and choice words when he rode this Klein the first time. Later on that day I almost washed the front end out two or three times going into the corners on the descent. I'd say it took me about half the day to figure out what kind of gearing I needed at any given moment - the funniest bit was probably right at the start of the day, watching me trying to climb out of the saddle in the lowermost gears and spinning the rear wheel helplessly. That was quite the day full of new learning experiences!
