Netflix intervals in the garage. Just as I came out, I saw blue sky peeking through the clouds. Aarrgh!

November is such a weird month here. The group rides slow down a bit but if anyone dares push the pace (like yesterday's group ride which got a little punchy), there's so much complaining about "off season" and "base pace". I looked around at the guys that were complaining and, ironically, realized I have never seen them at any races. They don't race any more but still have some sort of cyclical plan, which I understand because you can't go hard for 12 months. At the same time, the weather is perfect here for riding and race season is actually less than 2 months away. It got me to thinking, if I wasn't racing, I'd take my off season in July and August here when it's too hot outside.
Anyways, I'm feeling great and enjoying the bike so much right now. I get tired of the whining lol.

Had miles on the brain: rode to New Hampshire border, and back, 100 miles.

I tend to agree, BUT my power does not seem to have decreased, and my hormones (test, etc) seem to have bounced back from wherever they were. We're talking full on back acne, mood swings, etc. There might be something to taking a couple of weeks easy to reset the body's stress levels for the following season.

Easy commute. Probably going to be resting hard all week, possible exception for Wednesday morning cross practice. But even that won't be all-out.

Again, if it's working, I wouldn't change anything.

I took Sunday very easy and got in 90 minutes before the rain. It's raining again today so I'll do a little tempo on the trainer when I get home. I have lower back spasms today from sleeping weird which are pretty hobbling, but riding usually releases everything.
My in-laws fly home today, so the house is about to get 100% more comfortable to be in.

I'm only saying there are many ways to get from A to B and if that one is distressing to you, there is probably another that would work as well without that step. Anyway, glad whatever is resolving for you. Isn't bacne a sign of high test (anabolics) though?

I'm pretty sure backne is due to higher test levels. I'm assuming that if that's what is happening it's increased due to the rest, my coach agrees and he knows more about this stuff than I do. Only supplement I'm taking at the moment is beta alanine, before the break I was taking rhodiola rosea 3wks on 1wk off as well but I'm not really convinced that's anything more than a placebo as far as on the bike stuff goes.

5 hours, with 90 minutes of tempo. Greatly enjoyed getting marginally almost-lost on a bunch of dirt roads in Dutchess County. 30F when I started out. This was the first ride of the season that felt winter-ish and I love it. My favorite time of year to ride.
I don't take any supplements at all. I even ran out of protein powder last month and never bothered to buy more.
Doc appt tomorrow for a routine checkup. I bet my HCT is below 40.

Hope your back is better. I would blame it on Saturday's LKHC - high power on steep grades is really hard on my back.

But, I find steep grades "easier" than the flats. Perhaps it's because the power-producing portion of the pedal stroke is longer, while it's shorter and more intense on the flats.

My back gets jacked up like that every now and then - it can be something as random as sleeping on it weird, or making some random fast movement when my feet are in a weird position. Mine is due to an overuse injury that comes and goes, yours just seems random.
Hope you're better soon, I'm sure it will be mostly back to normal by tomorrow.

it's a recurring thing I've had since I grew tall-ish. comes and goes, usually for a day or two at a time, a few times/year. Seems entirely exacerbated by sleeping (on my stomach) as I wake up either good or unable to stand up straight. On the bike it never bothers me and usually the riding warms everything up and it lets go.

I get "wry neck" aka adult torticollis from sleeping weird on occasion. It always goes away in 2-3 days without any intervention. Apparently sleeping in a colder than normal or drafty room can trigger it.

I passed a group of five at a road crossing, on my way to tonight's race committee meeting. They all had headlamps and were kitted out. Makes me want to get one.

Very negative TSB, sore legs, day off tomorrow. Day 2 of rest week.
Still, I'm motivated and looking forward to gettin' at it. It will be nice to get a bigger number when I re-test next week.
