Scapin is finished
This has been a real fun project, and a learning experience. I bought it through the local CL after seeing that it had some parts that are desirable to campy fans. The bike turned out to be all campy except for the gripshifters on the bar ends instead of the downtube friction shifters. As this progressed, I eventually found the lbs that had originally sold the bike. Evidently there were only a few shops in the US that carried Scapin. The wheels were rebuilt 3 cross to replace the radial spokes. I like the look better for this bike, and the thought of ruining a set of sheriff star hubs made this an imperative. The replacement shifters aren't campy, but I will likely replace with period campy friction models at some point. The freewheel is a replacement, saving me the expense of finding the "unicorn" freewheel tool. The C-record delta brakes will be sold, which should recoup a big chunk of the price of the bike, and I kept the campy theme for the replacements.

Well, you don't se that every day: a bike that comes with with Deltas, Sheriff Stars .... and, uh, gripshifters?
Glad to see the bike fall into the right hands. I like your changes to it; I'm sure you will too.

Bob, are you looking for decals? I have a few varied decal sets for this era Scapin - one is a gold-background one with black lettering that looks like it would be appropriate seeing the gold fork decal. Please let me know!

DD - Thanks. I didn't know if the bike came with the Scapin decals. I would like, I think, to add them. Did Scapins have a head badge decal? Also, the tubing decal can stand replacing. Can one get Columbus SLX replacement decals?
Obviously, this is pretty new territory for me.
