front rack ?

What is the latest and greatest titanium front rack?
where can you get it on sale for half off?
Do the make a collapsible front rack? So I can put it in my travel case, and reassemble it when I get off the plane.

Old Man Mountain
Tubus
Blackburn is getting pretty good
Surly

Nobody likes Salsa anymore, they only work with Salsa's.

If you want to go handmade, Cetmas are cool, as are the custom racks from Haulin' Colin.

Can it at least be on sale a little?
Where in china? Walty titanium bikes?

Where exactly is haulin colin? Seattle?
Do you trust him enough to let him add canti studs to your frame? I know you trust him with my frame, but do you trust him with your frame, the new one?

Alaska air says 50 pound weight limit. Case is 17 pounds 50 - 17 = 33 pounds for bike and tools and camping gear not allowed in carry on, ( tent stakes, knife etc). A rack in a 62 liner inch case could be a problem. Any such thing as a folding or take apart or 2 piece rack?

I've taken a couple of trips with the S & S soft case & took a rear non-folding rack which fit into a carry-on suitcase. Was pretty tough just to pack big Surly LHT bike in so I didn't even bother trying to fit the rack into the S & S case. Perhaps Alaska Air might let the rack go into your carry-on: one could argue it's a bike part not camping equipment. Racktime makes an Alu folding rear rack. I thought about getting Tubus Ti racks but they're a bit $$ for the fairly minimal weight savings. A folding or take-apart Ti rack would be pretty nice but AFAIK that would be a custom job.

The Tubus "Tara" front rack folds into a pretty flat configuration.

what about a Thule' Pack & Pedal? You could probably take it apart to lay flat (pretty sure). And I bet if you tried to get it in Ti, it'd be a lot more than twice as much. I use one for my front rack on my Specialized RockHopper. I like it OK. And, Wayne at the Touring Store is the best.

why not a set of lowriders? (me liketh blackburn)
they're cheap
they're often on sale for half off
they are collapsible
they work well
can either bolt directly to mid-fork eyelets or use U-bolts
easy on/off
pack flat...two flat frames and (or maybe not) a flat u-shaped stabilizer

Since you're trying to fit this all in a shipping bag, why not go with soft luggage/bikepacking gear. A handlebar bag/roll, framebag, and seatbag/ They are all soft and "moldable" into your shipping box. Plus they can't get broken/bent.

Tubus duo packs pretty compact, as long as your fork is compatible with it.

You did not say what type of rack you wanted, if you want a low rider rack and if compactness for travel is more important than the material, get one of these:

I asked Icelandair a bit ago. And they said fenders and racks could go in the box with the bicycle. But absolutely no luggage.

I have all that stuff. Works good above freezing, and with resupply every few days. I don't like the seat post bag, because it sways to much.

At the moment I am trying to figure out a way to carry a bear can on the front of my bike. I have a bearvault 500. It is big. They claim 7 days worth of food, but a careful packer can get 10 days into it. Would the tubus airy fit on the front. I don't think the low rider rack will work out, because I travel in some lumpy bumpy places.

I will remember the tubus duo. It does not fit this year's plans. It may fit next year, or some other plan. Seems to be the only collapsible rack.

If you want a platform rack for your food container, you could have specified that type of rack and gotten better answers.

I have a cheap Nashbar platform rack on the front of the bike in the photo along with a Tubus Ergo lowrider rack. The Nashbar one mounts on the cantilever brake posts, but you did not say if you have that type of mount or if you use discs. The orange thing on the rack is my polartec vest that I wore in the morning. The platform however might be a little small for a week of food, I am not sure how big that container is.

The Racktime TopIt rack might fit your needs better, larger platform and a good weight rating, but I have no photos of one. Google Racktime TopIt.

Thule' Pack n Pedal. The rails sticking up are the pannier attachments. You can move them level with the top. Thule's says you can carry 55lb. Also it's not a rack that's dedicated to a front fork. It'll work on a rear triangle, suspension fork, and the space shuttle. I would not want to carry 55 lbs on the front of my bike or on the front of my space shuttle. Anyway, I'll give it a rest. But it's a handi-rack. I mean... handy rack.

isn't the el cheapo NB rack rated for 10 pounds? 5.5" x 8"

the bear vault is a plastic cylinder, 13" tall, 9" diameter. weighs 2.5 pounds.
then add a week's worth of food. not a good fit for this particular platform.
