100mm fork where a 130mm should be
I have an 07 trek fuel ex8. As of now, I have a RockShox recon gold 100mm fork in the front and a RP23 (i believe) 120mm rear shock. I've been feeling like the bike wants to throw me over the handlebars. Keep in mind - this absolutely in some part due to my rusty skills, but I started to think that it was maybe the bike. I decided to look up the original specs of the bike and found that the fork that was intended for the frame was one with 130mm travel. Would the 100mm fork I have on a bike made for 130mm travel make a significant impact on the geometry and ride-ability of the bike? The frame size is 20.5in and I am 6'1 225lbs if that makes any difference.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I figured so- but it's hard to differentiate how much of the forward-tipping sensation is due to poor technique and how much is due to the ill-fitting fork.

So, I've been looking for a new fork for my bike but I haven't had any luck finding something that works correctly. The fork needs to be for 26" tires, 1 1/8" straight steerer, 9mm QR and 130mm travel. It doesn't really look like such a fork is made any more. Any suggestions?

used fork on ebay-- then have it re-built by a local shop when it gets home to you --- or buy a slightly more common thru - axle fork and have a thru axle front hub laced to a rim that matches your back rim (or re-use current rim if possible )

Straight steerer 120mm forks can still be found. I wonder if the recon gold can be rebuilt with spacers to 120mm as well. ..it's a little short of 130mm but may remedy your problem
