Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

After exams I'm going to ride my legs off.

Anyone else going through exams right now? Tuesday was cell lab exam, wednesday was developmental lab exam, thrusday is plant phys exam and project due. The only way I've been able to ride is by putting my trainer in front of my computer and going over class powerpoints while riding. BTW doing that really takes your mind of the pain and makes the material a lot harder to learn which keeps me more interested. And another bonus I don't feel guilty for going for training when I have so much to do. Mentally I feel like I'm on mile 85 of a century and I still have to go over Mt. Mitchell. But once I'm done my R5000 should be in so I can go ride into the mountains on something a little faster than the touring bike. Anyone else having end of semester blues?

Calc II final next Wednesday so I feel your pain. I plan on riding the wheels off my new bike when that's done. No Mt. Mitchell here, so I'll have to settle for an overpass or something.

I don't have final exams for another 2 weeks but I can't wait to get out on my bike for longer than an hour in the morning. It should be cooled down by then too. Of course, Wilma shortened my winter break by a week.

I did a bike tour to statesboro Ga from Chapel Hill NC. Yeah, definately a little more flat than Boone NC. I have to ride about 20 miles to find any decent flats. But no real reason to do that now is there? My exams start next thrusday. Then I have the GRE Biology that saturday. Hasn't stopped my professors from shoving as many tests and work down my throat as possible before exams. Good luck on exams all.

That tour sounds nice. Did you bus or ride back? I'm going to try to get a # to ride Mitchell next year. If I don't get it I'll just stay the week and ride it by myself later. Maybe I could hook up with some of you locals if you'd be willing to climb it again.

I'm feeling you on the professor last minute scramble to complete material. I've got a good one for Calc II that hasn't muscled up on us here at the end.

Actually I was planning on touring down to my mom's house in Oviedo FL (suburbs of Orlando). But it was the middle of the summer and I'm from the mountains so I was acclimated to the cool weather. Also at that time I was overweight so that didn't help with keeping enough fluids in me. Long story short my legs cramped terribly for a few days so I dropped out and my dad flew down to the jail airport about 40 miles from statesboro to pick me up. It was either that or take a bus back, and he loves flying so it wasn't a hard decision for him.

I can't wait for next semester. Only 12 hours and one science class with the rest being easy or fun. Four senior/graduate level sciences in one semester can be pretty rough. I just keep picturing how I'll feel the morning after my last exam not having to do a damn thing (I'm picturing it without the hangover since my b-day is the last day of exams).

Oh, to be in college again....

Exams blow. I'm taking my boards (USMLE Step 3) next week. It's a 2 day exam, 8 hours each day. I haven't been riding at all except back and forth from the library.

Good luck all. Let me know if you have any bio questions that I can answer (but chemistry, physics, etc - sorry, but you're on your own!). I

I've been done with exams for a few weeks now. The only thing that sucks is all my riding partners are gone and the weather is so cold that I'm forced to ride the trainer

I did that two weeks ago with my human physiology slides when I first got my trainer. I was sitting with my back straight and I felt discomfort for the next two days. I need to think of a different way to study while on the trainer, and I think a sheet music stand propped in front of the bike might be the way to go. This way I can be in my regular riding position and feel no pain.

I feel your pain, and I'm a music major with juries (basically our version of finals) coming up, so any second I'm NOT practicing, I feel guilty.

Well, I'm done doing work for today. I'm damn exausted. I've barely slept in 3 days. The developmental lab exam was so damn hard when I saw it I almost bust out laughing because I imagined drawing a picture of me getting skrewed as an answer to one of the essays. When the 3.8 students look at the test like it's from mars you know it's going to be bad.

The harder we work now the better the break will feel. Hey, my girlfriend's family has an 18 year old sweedish foreign exchange student staying at their house where I'll be for christmas! I can finially tell someone I'm going cycling in 40 degree weather and they won't look at me like a nut

Roughrider- How do you find time to ride and get your stuff done?

I have a 10 page essay that I have to get done by tomorrow so I'll have enough time to read a book and write an essay on it for Tuesday. In a week or two I have finals. Blah.

I have exams next week in:

Managerial Finance
Winery Accounting and Finance
Winery Operations
Wine Marketing

The ops and marketing exams have an aesthetic component, whic certainly makes them more enjoyable! The only problem is that my managerial finance is afterward

I am only taking 4 units of directed research right now but it is killing me time wise. I will definitly be getting back full time when this is all over (in about a week)...

The bike is calling for me every time I go by the garage

Cpilsbry- I'm taking appreciating and understanding wine next semester and doing some research for the biochemistry in the field of enology. It's even getting me a chemistry minor. Are you going into wine making of some sort?

Research kills time. And the worst part is when you aren't getting results and have a ton of other work. I feel your pain 58vw. At least I'm not getting credit for it so I can take time off when I need it.

Turned in my last assignment about an hour ago. All of my exams were done with before the Thanksgiving holiday oddly enough this semester. I've been too busy to pick up any warmer weather riding gear and it's been so blasted windy here that I haven't gotten any riding in since Sunday. But I'm leaving for the frozen north (East Lansing Michigan) to see my fiancee on Saturday so when I get back the Texas winter won't seem so bad to ride in!
