Completely not true. Disc specific road/cross style carbon clinchers have been in the market for many years now. I have 3-4 seasons on my own in fact. ENVE likes to think they are the first but they are actually usually the last. They make good stuff but they are seldom the first.

Boyd disc brake carbon wheels are disc specific wheels. No brake track and use center lock disc hubs.

Boyd wheels look pretty cool. $1500 for a wheelset isn't terribly expensive either.

My NOX rims do not have a brake track and are the slightly older A 36ds (disc-only) that have been replaced now with some new model. I found them to be too wide for my Tarmac and not ideal for 23/25 tires with an internal width of 20.5mm so I put them on my cyclocross bike with 32s. They are excellent rims though- stiff yet just compliant enough to not feel harsh in 24x28 drilling. Some deeper rims may be too stiff. I do not like ENVE rims on mountain bikes since they feel too harsh and stiff and don't react as well as good alloy rims or softer carbon rims on rough turns and terrain till you really start to lower tire pressure more than I like to (I do not like going below 22/24 PSI) in order to compensate. They are probably excellent for road. Like NOX, there may be others who use a disc-specific rim that does not build in a brake track. Check Knight and Boyd and NEXT DEVO. Even the cheap Chinese rims have started to do this.

Also remember to allow for the changing wheel securing systems for disc wheels. If your current bike is quick release you probably should get hubs that can be converted to thru axle to "future proof" things as much as possible.

The newer Specialized designs have basically eliminated any aero differences. Flat mount calipers are still accessible for easy maintenance, which is a win compared with many of the hidden brake solutions.

I get the weight penalty, but to be honest it's minor. I'm not totally buying the 'disc brakes aren't aero' argument anymore though.

I literally received them 22 hours after ordering them. I'm in Canada mind you, and they are stocked about a 4 hour drive from me at the Canadian distributor.
I got DT240s and they came with a free ENVE t-shirt and rugged wheel bag. Still waiting for Pro One tires to arrive...

I paid sticker price ($2,900 in clinchers with DT 240 hubs), but got these for free with them. Technically I've only paid half, the rest is due when they come in.
Bought this shirt separately. It was on sale at the time and I like the design. Was curious if it was what they sent you, guess not.

I'll post photos of the Dengfu wheels when they come in. Sometimes I regret not spending $250 more and getting the DT-240 hubs, but I'll splash more on my next bike/wheelset. I think starting cheap is the way to go for now.

Main reason to go with DT 240 hubs is if you want to move the wheels between thru-axle and QR systems.

I am hoping to upgrade my stock wheelset on my cx bike as this is my main road bike. I plan on getting a set of custom racerim 35mm RIDE Carbon Clinchers disc for my road riding.
