Peugeot AE8 - new in box 1974 or...?
Bought this at Able Auctions on March 26th, 2017. Cap's Cycle was liquidating museum pieces and lots of old stock.
This was in a box, and I guess bidders over-looked it cuz it didn't say Peugeot on the label of the box. Took a few days of viewing the auction items before it dawned on me, too.
So I tore open the side of the box. The violet color matched the color of a put-together 1974 UE8 in the auction. Same Mafac racer brake pull, but my saddle is leather with ADGA branded. Think i saw "Made in France", and the box label indicates it was shipped through Panama to Calgary, Alberta, so maybe it was.
Kind of want to break open the plastic shipping wrap, not sure if I should keep it as an unopened heritage piece. Time-capsule it for another 20 years and who knows? But then again, it it's the right size, I might ride it.
Any assistance on size would be appreciated?
(Note: I did post the same pics on the Peugeot UE8 thread)

Number 60 on label may refer to frame size in cms, measuring c-t-t, ~23 5/8". You may recall the ADGA 28A saddle was mentioned in the other thread.

Nice find. The UE-8 is a nice bike, the deluxe model of the lower end Peugeots. But, there were millions of these lower-end bikes made, so it's not like it would end up as a museum item. If you're selling it, sell it with the packing box as proof of it's "new" condition, but it won't add anything to the value like keeping an original Hot Wheels car in it's plastic package would. Neat to have, but not terribly valuable. The original pump is a rare find, and the saddle has some value.
Open the box, enjoy riding it, and keep it clean.

Poor thing, missed all those years of riding. Definitely get it out, RIDE, keep it shiny and clean.
Kudos for realizing what it was!

That's what I was thinking. I mean, I'm not especially sentimental about boxes, but jeez, you couldn't just open the flap at top and lift the bag out?

Box Cutters. lol
It's a wonderful time capsule. Take/keep a bunch of pictures, put it together, pass it on if you're inclined to.

And unending massive copper staples. But yeah, I should have tried to preserve the box.
Box was partly ripped open at the auction; it would have been a chore to try to open it from the top in front of everyone, would have taken great effort and maybe brought the wrath of the auctioneers. Others might have started tearing other boxes open.

I just picked up one of these. Not as minty fresh as this but it's in good shape. I'm looking forward to rebuilding it.

The white grease they used in the hubs, bottom bracket and headset has probably turned to brown glue by now. It would be best to renew it before riding it.

^^^This. Also check the brake pads, they may have hardened after all those years (like pencil erasers).
