Direct mount kickstands

Ran across this from Trek just now:

Bontrager Integrated Rear Mount Kickstand - www.trekbicyclesuperstore.com

Are direct mount kickstands on the chain stay a thing in general? Or is this a Trek-specific design?

Just am curious. Had not seen this style of mount before.

This one looks to be a Trek specific design. Great idea if this is want you need and want.

But is yours a clamp-on variety, or a direct mount?

I don't think I've seen direct mount before. Am curious whether it's an idea Trek came up with, or whether it's an industry standard that I've been ignorant of.

Is that a generic mounting setup though? Spacing on the bolts look different between the Bontrager, and between the two bikes Dark Arrow posted.

I was in a bike shop in Carbondale IL other day and was surprised to see all their new Trek hybrids already had kickstands on them. Guess a bigger demand for kickstands nowadays?

They're a common type of kickstand outside of NA, available in 18mm and 40mm mounting bolt spacing.

I added a 40mm pletscher kickstand to my trekking bike that has the mounting points.

Cool, thanks!

FWIW, I like my kickstands back there anyhow. They're all the clamp on styles, but they do a better job than the mid-mount ones IMO.

I had single speeds when I was a kid, too. Doesn't mean adults can't use them as well.

Specialized also has them. My 2008 Crosstrail Sport has mounts on the dropout for direct mounting, but my 2005 Sirrus Comp does not. The Specialized direct mount stand is a nice piece. MHO

Ragnar, I love your bike! I've those same cranks too. Great choice.

This has been an informative thread. 18 and 40 mm spacing. Common outside the States. I'll be looking more closely at chain stays now.

Don't understand the appeal of NOT having a kickstand. Have had my Specialized Roubaix for a year now, and hate not having one. Always searching for a "leaning spot" is aggravating. Don't know why most like this practice (shaking my head).
Currently researching any and all options for one, but since the Roubaix is all carbon fiber, I'm limited on options. May contact Specialized to see if they can give some input.

A fashion trend that should have never went away in the first place. Not all bicycles are dedicated racers.

That is likely because Trek is one of the OEM contracts that Giant Corp, Fills,
they got big making bikes for other importers, first.

When I was a kid, there was a point where kickstands were suddenly not "cool," and we stripped them from our bikes, along with fenders, baskets, banana seats, and so forth. Of course if you had a Schwinn, you were stuck with your kick stand.

Coincidentally, that was around the same time period when bikes became impractical to ride, and people stopped riding them.

I have a rear mount kickstand on my Giant Roam, it works great.
My Harley Davidson came with a kickstand, well Harley calls it a jiffy stand, I took it off and lean my cycle against a wall or light pole, I didn't think it was "COOL" to have a kickstand on a Harley!!
