Raleigh 3-speed 24" wheels
Looking to bring my bike to rideable/safe condition. The wheels are 24". Any recommendations on decent tires for this vintage cruiser. Having trouble sourcing in Canada for some reason.

I can't believe they aren't available up there. Have you checked with a local shop to see if they can order the tires for you? Probably a regular old 24 x 1 3/8 tire and Kenda is bound to make one. Good luck!

I think he means that Canadian Tire doesn't stock them (and they won't). Have you been to an actual 'bike shop'? I can't imagine ANY in Canada not at least being able to get them for you.

By "local shop" I meant "local bicycle shop," assuming the OP would know I did not mean Crappy Tire (as I've heard it called on other forums), just as I would expect someone in this country to know I did not mean WalMart or Western Auto. For all but the most basic, if you want bike stuff you go to a bike shop.

I'm assuming that the Raleigh uses a 24x 1 3/8. I know Kenda makes one. Not a top of the line tire, but I've always been happy with the 26x 1 3/8 Kendas on my 3 speeds.

First things first:
td84, are you measuring 24", or is that what it says on the old tire or on the rim? Someone told me he needed 25" tires once, but he was measuring across the rim...that rarely works. Check the rim or old tire for a size.
That said, Raleigh did use a 24" x 1-3/8" tire on Space Riders, Mounties, and other small bikes:

My daughter's Space Rider at the Stone Wall in Frontenac. I put Kenda K40s on it--540 bsd, I believe. It's also a wheelchair tire size, so there are some options. Of course, Schwinn had a different 24 x 1-3/8, just to be difficult...

Hi, td84. Just to be clear: it looks like the tires you want are probably ISO 540mm, a.k.a. 24 x 1 3/8, a.k.a. E-5.
However, you'll want to look at the tires carefully to confirm that they are marked with any of those three size names. It is possible, though very unlikely, that what you've got there are ISO 547mm, a.k.a. 24 x 1 3/8, a.k.a. S-5. Normally, you'd only see this size on a Chicago-made Schwinn, though.
Sheldon Brown explains tire sizes here. The big point is that you should go by the ISO/ERTRO size in mm (which tells you what size rim the tire will fit), rather than the inch sizes (which refer to the outside of the tire, and even there don't have much to do with reality).
Once you've confirmed that you've got 540mm tires there, lots of options are available in Canada on eBay and Amazon. The regular ol' Kendas will likely do just fine for your wife, but if you find she's getting a lot of flats, you might consider Schwalbe tires, either the DownTown or the Marathon. They're really superb. Good luck with it, and keep us posted! A Raleigh 3-speed is a great bike.
