My biking goals for this year: Ride 74 km by 7/31; ride a metric century, ride 1,000 miles, or at least beat 2015 mileage (2016 was shortened by surgery).

My goal for June was to beat 182 miles; my stretch goal was 225, for a total of 400 by June 30. I just came back from a 20 mile ride, which gives me 202 miles for June and 372 total.

If Joe Friel's suggestions and my previous experience are valid, I'll be able to ride my 74 km on my birthday (except i probably won't, because a friend is celebrating his b'day on the same day.

I really hope my body and bike stay fully functional, that the weather is good, and that the wind quiets down for thr rest of the riding season..

I've only started cycling again three weeks ago, after not having ridden for several years. I also only joined this forum a week and a half ago, and have been watching this thread with much interest. Since the 12th of June I have just over 89 miles in. I did a little over 10 miles today, and it kicked my butt. I really would love to hit 100 for the month, but part of me thinks I should probably take a rest day, or just do a quick ride. Any of you more experienced riders have any suggestions?

Either way 100+ is going to be mine next month.

Thanks in advance.

ride 3-4 days a week if you can. Go for as long as you can, time or body wise.

30mins per ride is a good start

Just be consistant

Stated goal was 300 miles .... looking back at it now, that was pretty unrealistic. Available time, fitness level, weather ... but mostly fitness, all factored in. That said, I'm thrilled with 201 miles for the month, especially so because I averaged 14.5 mph on today's ride.

Only 261 mtd. Was "out" with an ugly gastritis the first few days of this month which prevented me to ride.

So ends another June.

973.4 miles
58.3 hours
37,793ft^

And done on just 21 rides, so I averaged 46.3 miles and 1,800ft^ per ride. Crazy. I started to worry that I was slowing down, as I averaged 17.2mph for June 2016, 27 rides totaling 1048 miles-- but I climbed 1,800ft or more in that month just 6 times. I don't even like climbing that much, I don't know why I'm doing so much more of it.

Congratulations to All

Good month for most of us. Congratulations to all (but some of those numbers are insane....like you ride while sleeping...uphill!)

Important thing is we stayed on the bike when we could.

Look forward to the July numbers.

Stay safe in holiday traffic

Well, I made it back from our tour in WI. It was an experience. A day after I realized we passed through Brodhead and should have arranged a meeting and beer with @ill.clyde. Overall I was ready for it. 2 days after we were done my legs were not sore at all. My wife on the other hand felt every mile. Out of her element she seems to ride like she is scared and her average speed drops so low that her time on the bike gets to be too long and she fades and bonks. The last day of the tour was the worst for her. She broke down in tears as she decided that she was going to sag out and meet me at the hotel. She had lots of company though as many people sagged out that day and the previous day. This is a tough ride with a lot of hills, if you're not ready for them you will be in trouble.

June 1 - 19.8 miles
June 2 - 2.1 miles (headed out on our normal loop and the clouds started gathering, possible t-storms, went home)
June 3 - 43.4 miles
June 4 - 43.7 miles (My first flat tire, 5 minutes and was on the road again. Big enough chunk of metal that it may have ruined my tire)
June 5 - 12.9 miles (had chores to do, cut it short)
June 6 - 19.9 miles (big snapping turtle on the trail!)
June 9 - 20 miles
June 14 - 19.9 miles (close encounters of the furred kind, almost hit a rabbit)
June 17 - 42.5 miles
June 18 -43.1 miles (sticky chain link, adventure to Excelsior, MN)
June 20 - 20.0 miles (Avg Heart rate 118, strange)
June 21 - 19.9 miles
June 25 - 59.5 miles 2,864 feet climbed
June 26 - 47.7 miles 2,438 feet climbed
June 27 - 66.1 miles 3,907 feet climbed
June 29 - 53.0 miles 3,419 feet climbed

MTD - 533.5 miles
Goal - 500 miles

There are a scary number of miles in this thread. Just sayin'.

Mine, not so scary. Week beginning...
6/4- 44.4
6/11- 65.1
6/18- 84.9
6/25- 18.9

Week 3 included a 107K ride. June's goal was 200mi, actual was 213mi. Slacked off in Week 4. Got the bill this morning on the first ride of July.

Glad to hear you made it ... sorry to hear about your wife. You're definitely right about the hills down here.

Were you guys impacted by the storms on Monday I believe it was?

The big storms were Wednesday. That was our rest day in Galena, IL. The worst part was sheltering in the basement, next to the bar, that was giving away free drinks because of our inconvenience.

That's what happens when I have a week off ... I lose track of days

Glad you guys weren't caught out in it ... Monroe and points north got hit pretty hard.

Maybe next year I'll join you

I'll need a roommate, my wife retired from this ride. Too hard on her physically and mentally. The ride from Monroe to Galena is 67 miles of up to 13% grade hills.
