Service life of a Shimano 3n71 dynohub

How long should a Shimano 3nXX dyno hub last? Just rolled 10k miles on mine and wondering if it should be re-greased. Can it be serviced? I've read here on the net that there are wear and replace unit. So far it's running smooth as far as a dynohub can run smooth. (Notchy but not excessively)

AFAIK these are not meant to be serviced, but used until they fail. It might be possible to service, but information is hard to find. I serviced a Dahon "Joule" hub (early version) after it failed and I had nothing to lose. My write-up is here: https://hubstripping.wordpress.com/2...le-dynamo-hub/. It looks like "Image 12" may be a hub similar to yours. If it is, yours may have one cup/cone bearing and one cartridge bearing. My hub had two cartridges. As you can see, there's a lot of work involved; it would be cheaper to replace the hub rather than service it unless you do it yourself. I had un doing it though!
