Peugeot Identification Assistance

So I picked up this Peugeot super cheap from a local bicycle co-op and know nothing about it, but would love to know more about it. Any chance anyone would be able to help me out with identifying it? Or at least narrowing down my options?

I've done some digging but all the links I found to old Peugeot catalogs are broken.

And yes, I know it's small pictures. I can't post image links until I hit 10 posts and the max image size is understandable small.

Appears as though it may have begun life as a mid-'70's model U08. Has had a number of its fittings changed out.

^^Yes, a mid-70's UO-8. Here's a link to the catalogs from the Bikeboompeugeot site for the 1978 catalog.

If you put good alu rims and nice tires on that beast, it will be a very pleasant ride.

Your recommendation is good from a riding sense, but would likely add another $150, for rims only, or so to a budget of $100 in parts alone to overhaul the bike. That exceeds fmv by $75-$100.

An old Peugeot AO-8 has been my favorite ride for the last two years, and I have a Masi, a couple Stevensons, and three Rodriguez bikes. The "cadre allege" Peugeots, for whatever reason, are simply brilliant. I treated mine as I felt it was worth, with proper braze-ons and new paint. It's worth every cent.

The white with half chrome fork would indicate a 74-76 UO-8. Very nice basic rider well worth fixing up with some nice modern tires these ride great even on stock rims if true.

Thank you all for the information. Nice to know I found a potentially fun bike. And I have to agree with Aubergine's perspective, this bike looks like it could be a fun showcase bike for my slowly growing collection, spending a bit over time to make it shine sounds like a good use of time and expense for me, since I plan to keep it.
