You're all making this harder than it needs to be.
Run it through a wash cycle on the top rack of the dishwasher and it will be good.

Sure, but what if you don't have a dishwasher (machine ). Hence the other options, plus I don't want cat pee mixed in with my shot glasses. It may ruin my whiskey...... or improve it...hmmm...

Real payback is for kitty to spray the helmet while you are wearing it.

They're smarter than you might think. It drives my wife crazy when he pulls books out of the bookcase but I just think it's funny and I'd set them up for him if it was a game. So he only does it when she's there, and only to get a rise out of her. He knows what would happen if he sprayed me.

Anyway, regular wash with the laundry and I used Tide I think, and I'm back in business.

Assuming that the cat still has its claws, full-time indoor cat becomes full-time outdoor cat. Problem solved. We still take care of an outdoor only cat. When we spayed her years ago after a litter of three, we kept her indoor for a few weeks to let the stitches heal. Unfortunately, she was miserable and not used to being inside. She would stay in the bathroom huddled in a corner all day and we ended up feeding her there. She was happy as a clam when we let her go outside after the stitches were removed.

I'm late to the show, darn it.

I used vinegar on anything my baby nailed. Vinegar will make it no longer smell to human noses. I will also spray 50/50 vinegar and water around the litter box.

But the pet enzyme cleaners make it stop smelling to feline noses. That way they won't smell the pheromones left last time and pee or poop in the same spot.

Was it spray or pee? Pee could have any number of reasons, physical or mental. Spray is 100% territory marking.

I'd try a bucket, or kitchen sink and generous cycles of soap and water. Weight it down and soak?
You use the upholstery attachment on your carpet cleaner and something to neutralize the cat pee. You can get cleaner for that with the rental or at the store. Just don't let it set and your cat should be in a carrier if you are traveling and the car windows shouldn't be left down enough to let them in. Cats think your car is the best hangout ever.

I may just leave it at work, where it serves most of its purpose. Half of which is heading off "where's your helmet" questions.

A cat stench would make that problematic. Fortunately a washing machine and Tide detergent took care of that.

I can't remember which brand of helmet it was (MET? Kask?) but they took back some 7yr old helmets from customers and tested them to the same standards as they do current designs and they all passed (of course, these were helmets that had not been in a crash). This was interesting in that the company was almost advocating not replacing their helmets. I guess, on the other side, potential customers looking to buy new helmets may be enticed to buy theirs.

I know my local LBS advocates replacing helmets after 2 years, even if not part of a crash. I don't listen to them.

The local LBS advocates (i.e. bicycle product salesmen) probably would recommend every six months, with just as absent justification, if they thought anyone would be dumb enough to fall for the blatant bogus helmet sales pitch.

Naw, the helmet is owned. The OP has to wait to be fully claimed until the cat sprays him.

My Family cat liked the warm clothes dryer , of my parent's combination front loading washer dryer , single unit,

one time another load was started while the black cat was in there,

but since it was white sheets the guy was noticed when the machine made funny sounds..

... then someone had to hold him down, in the bathtub to rinse the soap off him.

rubbing you with their head leaves scent from along their neck too, just not as pungent as male's Pee.

True, but that could just be marking you as property of the entire cat colony. Being sprayed would mark you as that cat's alone.

(And I am so happy that both my boys were already neutered long before I got them.)

Try a gentle cycle in the dishwasher & no heat to dry ?
