Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I am planning on bringing the road bike. When I get an excuse to ride it I typically do.

Secret shortcuts, like what east-west streets?

I'm sick of people cheating at races. That's why the last cuttin crew was so ***ed up.

I'm pretty pumped for this right now.

Steaktaco and I are riding the route on Saturday morning starting from Madison/Washington if anyone wants to come. I won't sleep in this time.

this is probably no surprise, but the first half of Milwaukee ave going north is crappy.
poor surface, no bike lane.. but it improves several blocks before elston.. and then
elston coming back is cool, that is untill the corner of elston/damen/fullerton... i swear, that corner should provide an example of how NOT to plan a city.

As far as cutting the course...
When I originally threw this race- I was planning on riding with/near the front group until the turn around point at the north end, stop and check to make sure everyone behind passed by the furthest point (no cuttin')...

thanks for the link!

and honestly, the last thing i'm trying to do is arouse suspicion about cutting.. really it seems silly to even consider it.. i was just making a (lame) joke since chidream and i were the only ones who turned out to ride the route last time.

No worries. I don't think people are interested in cutting... But looking at the map- it would be easy. Not that anyone showing up on a Sunday morning in the middle of Winter would be looking for the "easy way out".

Might have to use the roadie. It's the only ride I got now that's not in some state of disassemblage or in repair, other than the mountain bike.

So, who's going to bed at a reasonable hour on Saturday night?

More importantly, who's staying out until 8am?

I get off work downtown at 1:30. We could start at Ogilvy and do the whole thing. Hey, I'm in your signature(red jersey).

At least one person's coming from Champaign, and another from Madison...but I doubt they'll burn as bright.

i'm coming down from madison and i'll be riding slow. i haven't been on my bike in a few weeks due to my smashed up wrist (couldn't apply pressure on it -- ie. i couldn't have it on my handlebars) so i expect to be sucking wind. the wrist is almost painfree so it will be fun to just ride comfortably again.

i do have a good shot at "1st Madison" from what i can garner.

seriously though, some of the milwaukee riders are killers.

By burn as bright, I am assuming you are referring to his day-glo hotpants...?

The Wisc. cats always come in and come strong early. Last year was Casey Masterson (whose friend ended up buying my Pista at the time, heh, small world) who came on strong early.

YOU'RE ALL ANIMALS!
