Hope B.B. conversion
I mistakenly purchased a Hope BB for a 24mm spindle when I Need a 30 for my White Industries crankset. Anyone know if I can just swap out the bearings, or are the shells for the 24 and 30 different? Thanks.

that would be a bearing with a 30 mm ID, instead of a 24mm ID..
can you separate the bearing itself from the part that retains it?
If so, you can measure the OD , and thickness and go to an industrial bearing supply house
has to be more than one in Oregon's largest city, and buy just the bearing..
can you read the bearing number off the seal on the bearing you have?
I have a non standard BB (17mm ID, for square taper axle), on my touring bike ,
I went to a similar bearing supplier in Eugene...
but it was many years ago..

I own a 24mm Hope BB and I can't see any way that you could convert it to 30mm. I think you're out of luck. Best chance is to return the BB and replace it with a 30mm one. Hope makes one, and yes it is different to their 24mm (not just different bearings).

yea return it , and get the right one, is more straightforward..
i went from a generalized mechanic's perspective... not specific to Hope, UK, products..
Maybe CK has something compatible?, a phone call across town will answer that..

It's hard to squeeze in an extra 6mm and still have a bearing in there I think, and also I'm not sure that the BB itself has clearance for a 30mm spindle, even when the bearing is removed.
It'd be a hell of a hack job to get to work I think!

bearings in the cartridge typically get smaller but there are more of them ..
already external bearings wont have the 1/4" bearing balls of traditional loose ball BB.
I imagine my Cane Creek integrated headset bearing balls are likely quite small
For my Bullseye hubs my 2nd set of 6001 bearings was a 90% ball fill ,
same bearing number can be had with less balls, held equally spaced with separators ..
luckily those hubs were made around a common bearing..

Groan, another BLOG update with "new look". Anyway, look at Hope tech docs shows the respective bearings to differ in that
the 30mm ID bearings have a flange on one side where the 24mm ID bearings do not. This suggests the bearing holders
also differ significantly, although parsing this out on the Hope website is not easy, though they have more measurements
than is usual. I for one did not know BB for 100mm shells existed, and 92mm shells. Also learned about the T47 initiative
which seems likely to die slowly unless the Ti guys take it up.
