I've seen that back area, it is cozy & seasonally, they maintain an "outdoor cubicle" for required pit-stops. smart, since cyclists potentially represent significant business. we should all remember that when we visit roadside establishments. I frequent a cafe in Arlington by bike & always make sure to buy food & drink

The sun rose bright and early before the clouds rolled in. I made it out for 40 miles this morning. Instead of my usual 30 mile route I took a different road through Weston and rolled by and along the Cambridge reservoir before rejoining 126 via Trapello rd and Lincoln Center. I added a second loop around Concord passing through the town center 2 times. It was another wonderful morning ride.

Ha, horses! Speaking of Rt. 2, I don't believe there are any signs prohibiting cyclists on the section between the 95 interchange and past the Concord rotary. I know someone who cycled to Walden Pond on 2 which I thought was insane. Kind of like you can bike on Rt. 16 in Cambridge or Storrow/Memorial Drive... it's just a really, really bad idea in my opinion.

I ducked out of work an hour early and put 49 miles on the Roubaix this afternoon. I forgot how hairy these roads that are quiet and idyllic in the early AM can be so frightening in the afternoon. Supprisingly I crossed more cyclists than I expected to. It's been almost 2 years that the bulk of my riding no longer happens on weekday afternoons,

Got up with the sun this morning and just took a short spin around my neighborhood to try out my new pedals. They seem fine but I think I need to raise my seat a little to get the full benefit.

Today's cycling started with a 4-mile ride with Ellen on the Minuteman, a quick shakedown cruise for her new Rivendell Clem-L step-through that arrived Saturday and that I assembled and prepped for her.
She gave it a good report, and aside from a small saddle tweak, it passed this initial test.
After a brief intermission, I took the LHT for another 32 miles along the Charles River bike paths, covering the interval between the Moody Street fish ladder and the Museum of Science and crossing numerous municipal borders in the process. It was my first ride down there this year, and a good day for it.
Dogs are fine, amiable animals, and put up with a lot from their humans; in this case, paddleboarding.
The first of many reminders that the Charles used to be a working river.
Now it's a dandy recreational resource.
The Moody Street fish ladder, the up-stream turnaround point.
Goslings everywhere you look. At one point, I listened to an hilarious antiphonal sequence between a flock of Canada geese and the OSHA beeper on a piece of power equipment.
The woman and her dog on the paddleboard didn't have the river to themselves.
I saw perhaps a dozen hammocks strung up between trees on the Esplanade. This one was suspended in a tree, reminding me of Zephyr's Monkeyville in the old Babar books; pretty ambitious for a hammock.
Harvard is having its commencement exercises this week, and I ran into academic felicitations in progress on the Weeks Bridge.

Last night I went to bed knowing I'd be sore in the morning. I awoke to Reveille at 0400 and seriously contemplated staying in bed. A cup of coffee later and the siren call of my Roubaix compelled me to suit up and head out again. I rode my usual 30 mile route and was relieved to have my quiet roads back. The morning commuters appear to me less anxious to speed and swerve their way to work than they do in the evening. My recently (Sunday) disassembled, degreased and lubed drivetrain was still speaking to me in ways I don't want it to. Another try with the chain checker has me thinking the cassette is worn. It'll be racked for a few days until I install a fresh chain and cassette. Which is ok with me as tomorrow would be a fine day to plow right over the ruts, cracks, and construction sites with my cross bike instead of going around them!

Didn't see anything that interesting on this morning's ride anyway except a bunch of turkeys on my neighbor's lawn. I see those too often to warrant pictures.
