Riding slower than your normal pace

It was not an analysis and you quite obviously do not know the meaning of the word ‘hate’
![Thumbs Up](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Kind of creeped out though by your continual use of the words ‘hate’ and now ‘love’ on an Internet cycling forum.
Newsflash:
OP chimed in and clearly stated he posed a rhetorical question that had nothing to do with training.
Good old internet silliness...

And please accept my apologies Mr. Internet Policeman, I will endeavor not to creep you out--though I will confess myself somewhat concerned that your emotional state is so easily perturbed.
I will add officer, you are absolutely correct that OP pointed out that several people interpreted his rhetorical OP in a manner different than how he intended. OMG, STONE THEM!!
Now that that's finished, maybe we can get back to something important? Like chastising people still wearing white slacks after Labor Day?
Whatever. I'm off to ride.

So let's see...
I-Like-To-Bike told Tim, "Gimme a break!
"
livedarklions said, "Hey, if knowing a bunch of data works for you, fine, but I really don't think you're being honest with yourself about how strongly you implied it was necessary to do things "right"."
I-Like-To-Bike followed, "that is all YOU and YOUR kneejerk arguing about something which was not said or implied by the OP."
livedarklions added, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have suggested that you were outlining the proper training regimen for the OP when what you were doing was outlining the right training regimen for everyone who trains. Yeah, that's way better."
I stand corrected, you are absolutely right. Clearly these are posts motivated by love and not hate. You can read the respect for Tim being "knowledgeable and passionate" just oozing from the quoted text.
Cool analysis bro.![Thumbs Up](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Yes I jumped in with objective data I've seen that supports Tim's point of view. Sorry I'm not sorry.

So expressing disagreement with the teeny-tiniest amount of sarcasm = expressing hate in your world?
Tim and I have had perfectly civil and friendly exchanges outside of this thread since the above exchange. You're just over-the-top with this "hate" stuff.

Back to the OP's original question about the difficulty on riding slower then normal. For me it's a pita, the only way I can do it is to drop gears and spin and to monitor the HR.

I call it head wind. Once on a very gusty afternoon, off lake wind stopped me coasting on a slight downhill. I got off and walked for a bit.

I call it riding at whatever speed a certain level of comfort/effort entails. Usually the only difference in my estimated speed is dependent on wind direction/velocity . I adjust the gear selection (on my 3 or 8 speed bike) to bring about the same effort and get whatever speed, faster or slower, is the result. My effort level remains at whatever feels comfortable.
Though I may sweat from heat/humidity I never ride at any intensity that would cause me to breath hard. That is what gears are for IMO. Works for me in my typical approx. 13 mile R/T daily.
Back when my wife was riding I found it no problem to ride slower so that we could ride together.

No heart rate monitor is required but it does take practice. Practice isn't training.

I can do a half decent track stand (although nowhere near as good as the guy in that video), but since I'm not using clipless pedals, I usually just don't bother to.
