A bit of Huret Jubilee information

Perhaps this has been posted somewhere before, but I found this tonight while culling through some old files. A paper copy of adjustment information for Huret Jubilee derailleurs that came in a batch of paperwork (dealer catalog, etc) that accompanied the sales paperwork that came with my 1974 Motobecane Grand Jubilee. Apologies for the poor photos...

Part #2236 looks like it could be a Klingon torture/interrogation device.

Cool stuff!

This part is a cable guide that mounts just above the bottom bracket shell, clamping around both the downtube and seattube.
@orcas island - I just mounted my Jubilee group on my 1974 Raleigh Competition, which is nearing completion of its restoration. Your post was timely.

Thanks for posting, now I know what the shifters look like. I ran Jubilee on my high school bike, still got them. I've got a new front derailleur a few weeks ago here's a shot of that.

Be sure to use a fixed socket wrench on the nuts and bolts, as they are not as hard as those on some other components. An adjustable wrench might round off the corners.

This is good advice at all times, many of us talk about how long we have had some of our tools and while many of them last a long time with proper use and care, some don't and some parts are less cooperative at the same time and can lead to less than ideal results including the demise of some very hard to find parts, components, etc.

An ounce of prevention......

I sold a couple of the guides on ebay a while back. They worked better on a Teledyne titan than other designs, so I had 2.

I still have my Jubilee fd, the cage was heavily worn when the aforementioned Teledyne titan broke.

And go easy on the front derailleur clamp bolt; those clamps fail easily.

Jubilee front derailleurs were spec'ed on the Trek 720 for a while, but after several dozen front derailleur clamps broke on the assembly line, a Simplex front derailleur was substituted.

I should have saved more of the broken ones from Trek. I only kept a couple; one I sent to Jim Merz to fix one of his units, the other I found a Jubilee front with a broken cage at a swap and transferred the clamp to the otherwise-NOS broken unit.

I realize this request should be in the ISO thread but the search bar pointed me here. If anyone has a spare front Jubilee with broken clamp, I would appreciate a PM. Thank you

Got me out digging. Bike has two shop stickers. Stanyon Street Cyclery and El Sobrante Schwinn. At least the drivetrain looks original. Found in the bushes at a garage sale so it has its share of rust.

One last thing: my 'touring' long cage says SACHS HURET. Is that a later production?
I appreciate any info.

My little "collection". I'm presuming these are all Jubilee?

I've also noticed front derailleurs with different numbers of cut-out holes. What do the different amount of openings signify? Mine has five.
There's an acquired taste in order to appreciate them. Ultra svelte and fairly capable. The pivots and just about everything on it must be kept precise. I would put them in the same class as Campy Nuovo Record for its style and ones that are not forgiving once wear sets in. (Forget considering a well used rear unit, these are not like Suntour.) The pulleys are super nice having adjustable ball bearings.

There was the factory drillium and believe another offering with Ti bolts. I don't have one to compare but read the drillium were not as light compared to the standard of a few other years. Explaining the crude drillings, its possible and like many DIY, they copied the factory drillium.

Front derailleur has the similar clamp hinge like Suntour Cyclone and easily fracture at the hinge casting.

The Sachs units were later. There were different cage lengths (long for small chainring application) and offerings for seat tube angle.

Hey John- I see them on the 82-84 720s with some sort of regularity- was the batch used on the 85s bad, or were the 82-84 units different models?

Hazetguy, These derailleurs appeared in the marketplace around 73 and were standard on several models during 74 and 75, after that not so common. Some of the bikes these came on were the 74-75 Motobecane Grand Jubile (hence the name), Raleigh Competition (not the later GS series as they came with the cheaper Campy GS derailleurs), Raleigh Super Tourer (a rather rare bike in itself), one of the better Austro Daimlers (can't remember which) and maybe a couple others that I can't recall. Gary Klein spec'd it on his early aluminum frame bikes. They were most often found on better quality bikes and were considered somewhat exotic as they were extremely light and a little fragile particularly for ham-fisted shifters. Best shifts were done with a little lighter touch. Most of the production bikes had the short cage version. One notable exception was the 75 Motobecane Grand Jubile that came with a long cage version (I have both a men's and women's mixte version)

Your drilled cage looks like it may have been homemade. I recall seeing several drilled cages that the holes were countersunk. You have a nice collection!

Has anyone ever seen a drilled long cage Jubilee rear derailleur?

New member. Just cleaning up my GJ that I bought in'76 or maybe '75. Looking for any info about those years. Mostly it is all original or I have the parts. I have two Grand Jubilee detailers, one short cage and one long cage. I have the Maillard hubs but ditched the rims eons ago. Any idea what rims came on that model? 36 hole hubs.
