Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bugged out of work in the mid afternoon and went for a ride. Because of the terrain, almost all of it was into a big headwind. I had to carry my little backpack because I needed to bring home the cold weather stuff I wore in the morning. My back stiffened up after an hour or so and nothing I could do relieved it, so I just put my head down and gutted it out.

Too windy to do much out today other than mow. Or run, if I could run.

The Big Boy golden spike schedule is out!!!

I'm gonna be busy for the trip west and the big shindig, but I'll be able to see some of the return trip.

Very bored and distracted from working this Friday afternoon. There has been a mass shooting at a mosque near me and one on the otherside of town. The cops have one shooter. The city is basically in lockdown.

disgusting is a polite description. update is that the police have one shooter and two other associates. I do hope that those three pieces of scum don't survive their inevitable prison sentences. [/P&R rant]

Terrible, sickening, news. I admit to some minor relief that it didn't happen here, because it could have. Wife is headed to Christchurch in May. I hope it's not a security nightmare.

They need to put them in a regular jail with the general population, no protective custody. Let's see how badass they are now.

Setting out on the first springtime morning ride of the season in a few minutes. Perhaps I can be somewhat more creative this year, and not ride the same out and back every day.

The hotel where my host is staying is terrible. According to the various clocks on the wall, it's 6:00 a.m. in Los Angeles when it's 9:45 on the east coast. And 6:05 in London.

I once crossed the border, coming to Mexico from Belize, and the time difference was 45 minutes.

Just my opinion, and I don't disagree, but I don't think you murder 49 people with an expectation not to suffer for it, witness the fact that so many of those guys kill themselves or put up a suicidal fight. It's the entitled white collar grifters, professional liars, and all the other sociopaths whose social status protects them, whom I'd like to see serve harder and longer. Seems to me, that's where deterrence ought to work best.
