Pedal Trouble
As part of the spring tune-up before the season starts, I decided to disassemble, clean and repack the bearings on my Motobecane's pedals. The left pedal had developed a slight click. I took the locknut off the shaft this fell out:
Ouch.
Anyone have a french thread shaft/cone hanging out in their parts bin?

Nothing in my parts bin, but you could always check Recycled Cycles and Bike Works. Go digging around their "French stuff" bins or any bin germane to pedals etc. Since I don't run any French components, I am not familiar with what's in the bins or pedals to look for, but it's worth the attempt. Plus the people there are cool. Win-win.

About 7-8 miles south in Columbia City. Main "yellow house" hours are 'til 6 at present (6:30 in summer time), with the warehouse open Wednesday and Saturday 12-5. The Warehouse has a lot of the same thing, with even more variance in condition. They also have as-is bikes and framesets. Myself and Dfrost volunteer at BW regularly (weekly), and that happens at the warehouse. I'm working on a bike destined for sale (we have done this before) at present, and hope to be done with it in the next few weeks.

I bought an early '70s Grand Record with an Atom cone exactly like the op's. They're french thread. And a standard cone won't thread on the axle. Recycled Cycles had a pair of lyotards I thought could be good replacement pedals. At home, I noticed they had L and R on the axles, not D and G. Crap. So I thought I would try one of the lyotard cones in an Atom pedal. And it seemed to spin well. I later sold the lyotards for parts on craigs. That's a win.

Yeah, Recycled Cycles was a bust this time around. The Bike Shack (bike Coop) up here on the North End, was just depressing. They moved locations and longer have buckets and buckets of junk to dig through (which is exactly what I need in this case).
In a couple weekends, I'll probably head down to Bike Works to see if I can turn something up.

Well, I ordered a set of Lyotard 460D pedals off the fleabay with 9/16 threads. Everything on the pedals is the same except for the threading on the crank-arm end. As the pedals I got in the mail were in better shape than the ones I already had, I swapped the french threaded spindles into the new pedals. All smooth and *just* about ready to roll for the season
