The OP forgot to mention tattoos.
I guess it is a function of the broader society and the modern notion that every thought and feeling needs to be expressed. "Self expression" is equated with genius.
Writing letters has become email has become texting has become twitter. We are now to the point where few know how to have an actual conversation but most personal interaction is just a series of competing "I" statements. Photography has become selfies. The focus is on now on self - what I think and want, my rights and feelings are the most important. Everything is an "Experience."
Anyway, long hair on a woman isn't fur and neon serves a purpose if it keeps us alive in traffic. I doubt anyone uses blinky lights as a fashion statement.

As for the fur, I met Phil Robertson once--nice guy and it worked for him because he wasn't copying anyone else!

And the cocaine issue, there is at least one conspiracy theory about what happened to Marco.
Regardless of his issues, real or not, the man climbed like few others have, or will.
He was the stud of the mountains.

Pink was seen as a manly color until modern times when it was adopted by the ****sexual rights movement.
Pink is a tint of red, the color of blood, and was viewed as a warrior's color.
Admirals in the 1700's wore pink. This example is more correctly called rose.

Il Duce was wrong about so many things. His allegiance to that other wack job, brought much devastation and suffering to Italia and its people.

The clothing manufacturers like the gender-associated colors because it cuts down on hand me downs.

Well, good Il Duce thought that pink was for girls. In the new Italy that he was trying to build, men were men...and didn’t wear pink.

I assume you mean the color scheme and not his life.
BTW...Pantani came spinning along in the other direction while I was riding to a stage finish at the Bianchi factory during the '95 Giro. He had been injured during training and was sitting out the tour to get ready for the TdF.

That's me right there...My back pack is dark grey, my bikes are black and all my clothing is dark colours, black, dark grey, camo and few others. I don't own any clothing in bright colours except a construction vest which I use only when I feel it's necessary.

I've no idea why you would want to do this. Obviously, from what I've said before, I think it's stupid.

One of the nice things about getting old is you remember what used to be in style so you know styles are going to change again. I think it was just this past spring that somebody was complaining about all black bikes and components.
Feel free to chuckle at the folks with the blinkys neon and fur. They're probably laughing at you for being too bland.

Its gotten to a fresh new absurdity level....cycling fashion. Neon gone wild. Bug glasses. Skullcap bubble visor TT helmets. Then combine that with this facial hair fad. Its like a clown car collided with a huddle of walruses. Although I do get a chuckle from the colideiscope of blinky lites, neon and fur.

Right.........now we see how ridiculous this is. I complimented a guy who took a water break at the park my kids were playing at the other day, he had one of the those and it looked showroom still. Tell me you all don't watch pro baseball, or football, or futbol, or NASCAR (methamphetamine), or any other sport.
I think the original poster's name should be "little ring" instead of "big ring". Sounds like a little compensation for something going on in here.
I think the only kit I wouldn't ever wear without losing a bet is the Armstrong era Astana kit or the fugly AG2R kit when it was the "revealing" weird brown color. Ewwww......just ugly.
