Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did some low cadence work (FTP-ish at ~60rpm) about a month ago and it just killed my knees. Don't know if/what I did wrong, but staying away from it for now.

Go low, and work up. 4x5' SS 30-60 RPM on squat days. Weekends, 3x10' Increase the duration as you can handle it. Last weekend for me was 3x20' then Sunday 5x15' low cadence, alternate sitting and stand, drops and hoods. Nasty ass squats and deads both days.

Knees are always a worry, and you know your body. My pain is lower quads, and calf muscles. If you decide to try again, lower power is fine. Sweet spot, even tempo. Sweet spot is ideal. The idea behind this is both lifting weights with the legs, on the bike, and how much better the same power feels when you finally get to go up in cadence.

Despite my previous comments about high-level tri coaches pushing low-cadence riding, I always find it more expensive, physiologically.

In order to provide inspiration for the annual new year Bacchanal, now mere hours away, I submit the following video, a fusion of Andalusia and Morocco taking place in Casa Blanca. After seeing the video, you will like the idea of fusion also.

I'm going to enjoy the next couple days off, though.

It’s looking likely that my daughter will be playing/marching at the NFL playoff halftime show. Unless the Eagles choke.

I've pretty much reached the point where I'd rather see the band play than the football game.

Cowboys don’t deserve to make it, played like Jekyl & Hyde all season. Chumps.

I would say that with a caveat. Runners that go into, or also cycle, would suffer damage before someone in my situation.
