It's not too hard once you learn how to fill a bobbin and thread things properly. I learned in 8th grade Home Ec and retained most of what I've learned. I've done repairs and made pillow cases for the wife in the past, etc, but our antique Singer got moved to the basement when we needed more room for the kids on the main floor. If we could get our hands on something capable of sewing leather, I'd be really interested to take it up again.

She knows that NYU is never going to give her the traditional college campus (complete with frisbee and frat houses) experience, right? Like the stuff you see in the movies? And you know that you are going to be tossing her into the middle of Manhattan, right?
Also, she may or may not be surrounded by ultra-wealthy kids from all over the world who may or may not have cheated/bribed their way into the school (but I think that could be said about a lot of schools these days). I'm just thinking that USC might provide more immediate opportunities to get into trouble, but that would be more typical and 'harmless' college trouble, whereas the City could potentially provide a completely different level of trouble altogether...

There is a huge difference between, visiting NYC, and living there. We would go "downtown" a lot with my grandmother, when I lived in NJ, as a kid. We had lots of fun, but by the end of the day, we were all ready to get back home.

I think that has more to do with home, someplace where you can sit down and decompress, than it has to do with the city. I loved living in NYC and would move back if it were feasible.

I heard back from my son's teacher - no charity device necessary, it'll go to someone else. Distance Learning starts next Monday (they're technically on Spring Break this week). Should be, uh, interesting.

My Garmin 1030 took a dump a few months ago, started rebooting on its own every time I hit a bump. Because it had fallen off my bike numerous times and the case was beat to heck, Garmin wouldn’t replace it. they offered a 1030 refurb that was almost as expensive as a new 830 so I went to my LBS and bought a new 830 and threw the 1030 in a drawer.
A week or so ago, the 830 started giving me fits, discharging overnight and also having boot issues. I called Garmin and the tech told me some 830s had issues and they were going to release an update soon that was supposed to fix it. He sent me the beta update and walked me through the install. Seems to work fine now.
While he was on the phone, we talked about some issues that I’d had with their products in the past and I mentioned that before my 1030 died, it had had a light leak halo since it was new. Bingo! Magic words. I had heard some 1030s had had that issue and he offered to replace my broken 1030 with a refurb free of charge. He didn’t care that it was broken. I sent a pic of the “haloed” screen and he approved the free replacement.

Yesterday, as the little girl napped, I snuck out for a ride. Today, it was time to wash and lovingly caress the Cervelo. Two things: 1) I love not getting black smudges on my hands with every little nudge of the drivetrain 2) Never again will I buy a bike with a matte finish. Cleaning the Cervelo is WAAAAAYYYYY easier than the Domane.
Anyway, here's the current, ready-to-ride status of the Cervelo. I bought some silver/gray Bontrager cages - they're not an exact match, but I can't find anything red or gray that is an exact match and I didn't want to go with black cages. They'll have to do for now. Cervelo stem installed, but I still want to get around to trimming the steerer so that the top cap sits flush with the stem. I also want to track down some black baby bike bolts for the out-front mount.

Hey WhyFi - have you considered black wheel decals or just running the valve decal? I think it would be sexy.
I think I have a photo of my Assaults with black decals, if you want to see. I remember buying them from overseas on eBay.

Hadn't thought about it. If they were solid white or had the ol' spermies, like in some years previous, I would have yanked them off a long time ago. I'll do a quick mock-up for myself, but the outline doesn't bother me, though.

Well, I see the Campy thread is dead and buried.
