Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have one 700 x 26c Pirelli Cinturato tubeless tyre. I am not looking to purchase another tyre to make a set. So I'm curious. Am I best to replace the front or rear tyre on my bike with the 26c when the time comes? Or am I over thinking things and it won't matter.

Fatter tire in the back. Comfier and less aero penalty.

Whichever needs it first. There are pros and cons of both.

When your rear tire wears out, put the 26 in front, then put existing front tire on the back wheel.

Rotating like this works pretty well regardless of tire size (hopefully existing tires are 23-28 though)

Entirely possible I put down the wrong name of the tyre here. In fact that sounds like something I would do...
