Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

CRW Spring Century Sunday, May 21, 2006

CRW Mt Wachusetts century Sunday, July 16, 2006

Maybe: CRW Fall Century Soughegan River Tour Sunday September 17, 2006

I say maybe because of other centuries around that time (Tri-State, Loon Echo etc.).

I may do the Blazing Saddle again this year, not sure.

Great weather here, if this holds I'll be ready for a century in March!

I rode with them a few times a few years ago.

I usually ride with Quad Cycles on their Saturday morning ride (leaves the shop on Mass Ave in Arlington at 9.30am).

Which group do you ride with?

I'll probably be doing the Greylock century but I'm not to sure as I will hopefully be completing the brevet series and don't know the dates of those rides offhand.

I'd like to try any one of these, though it might make sense for me and my pencil legs if I look toward the end of summer. I live within striking distance of Mt. Wachusset, and I have a notion to try and take a long ride there some day this summer. The Souhegan River Tour sounds appealing.

Anyone ever done Wachusset or Greylock with a compact double? Or are they strictly triple territory?

Baiskeli, how are the Quad rides? Something for everyone, or only for the stout?

David

DaveloMA

The Quad Cycles are something for everyone and there is a 40 and a 60 mile ride. There is normally a fast group and then a medium and slow group.

Mirona,

I found your ride report on the Greylock century (good report). Am I to understand that you rode it with a regular double!

The CRW will be my first organized century. I have ridden a century solo (unplanned) two years ago. I am worried about the Quabbin and Greylock because the Quabbin has 6000 feet of climbing while the Greylock has 10,000 feet of climbing (and I am not a good climber). Anyway, assuming that I do ride and finish the CRW century I will gauge my form and how realistic riding the hilly ones is.

Tell DaveLoMA that he needs to buy his new bike and just freakin' ride the thing! Double, triple, compact or otherwise - this guy apparently has way too much time on his hands if he's thinking all this stuff! JUST BUSTING YOUR CHOPS, FOSTER!!! Didja decide on a color yet? Geez, these centuries are gonna come and go if you don't get off your arse sometime in the NEXT CENTURY!

Yes, I was on my Giant so it was a 53/39 and 12/23. There were three climbs in all and they were tough but doable. Now, I wasn't spinning up those hills, but I made it up fine

Ouch! I can't wake up that early and be coherent. I think the 9:30am start time of QuadCycles is geared towards non-early birds like me.
