Yes, and I wasn't surprised at the differences in some occupations. Women earn more as counselors and as first-line supervisors in non-retail sales and I think there were one or two other jobs. In my Cisco networking course, we learned that women who get the certifications make 5% more than men to start and even five years down the line if they stick with it. Part of that is probably because more companies are required to hire women and the women are concerned about the environment and need the incentive. Then again, they might be getting those wages based on their applicant test scores since I've heard from other female CompSci students they feel they have to be twice as good as the guys in their classes. We had four women in my first networking courses. We started the second semester with three women and, just before spring break, I was the only one left. I've really missed those classes this semester when I've had assignments with fuzzier less concrete answers.

I'm in the same boat. I've often thought I should have been one of the girls I saw in basic computer classes who was taking them so she could pursue a job in radiology. Then I remember I'm not that fond of people and I would probably really not want to deal with them when they're nervous, worried, and in pain.

I wondered if it's also because men and women go into the field for different reasons. Not to say that men aren't interested in helping people but women seem to be more likely to take socially relevant but as you say "less remunerative" positions such as working in an inner-city clinic or they might be at a school because their kids go there. We saw something similar when we looked at a study of female attorneys in private practice. Women made less money because they had fewer billable hours because they were involved in more pro bono cases. This is leaving aside the women who are working reduced hours or turning down overtime due to child care concerns or a desire to have more balance between work and friends, family, etc. It wonder if the medical wage gap maintains across so-called racial lines as well.
Oh my goodness. I've only been back a day and I'm already so far off topic. I guess I should try to think of something bike related to post.

Just learned that the 17 year old son of a couple I have known for a long time through the Philly bike club was hit by a car and killed the other day. He had just graduated high school and was a member of the school’s MTB team. I can’t imagine what his parents are experiencing.

Well and it's not just us measuring; it's beaten into us from every direction. Breaking Bad had Gus's "a man provides", and that's of course only one example. It's baked into one of the central points of The Baker and the Beauty. I'm about as woke as a white guy is going to get, I was raised by a stronk mother with far more savvy and drive than my father, which runs back up the family at least two more generations... and even for me it stings occasionally how much more AG makes. She doesn't judge, but despite that upbringing of mine it's been beaten into my psyche since I could read.

Hmmmmm. Remember how I said that I was getting hot and bothered by the Zipp 303 S and that I'd probably buy them if I found them in stock?
So yeah, my latest search finally showed them in stock with PBK, so I ordered them. But then I remember that SRAM has long since barred UK sellers from shipping to the US. But PBK now has a US site, so I thought that maybe they had operations here that got around the restrictions, yadda yadda. Long story short, I'm looking on the PBK USA site and Zipp *is* among the list of brands that are restricted to the EU and UK... yet they let me order them (at a modest sale price) and the charged me tax. Very weird. I guess I look forward to finding out if they actually ship and where they ship from.

My dad worked his butt off for forty years to the point it damaged his health. My mom worked off and on until my brother was born, took a break except for volunteer work until he was in high school then worked for the state of Washington for 17 years and wound up with Cadillac level health insurance and a much bigger pension than my dad received. He never mentioned it bothering him, but now I wonder if it did. I'm kind of wishing I'd asked him but then I never asked him what it was like to watch Jackie Robinson play and I wonder about that even more. We watched so much baseball together and it never occurred to me until after he was gone.

Nooooo. Most breads are zero problem with a sharp knife - something like challah can be cut so cleanly that I could cube it and put it back together and it would look uncut. Really crusty breads can be problematic, even for very sharp knives, because the edge will just slide on that tough shell, but a little poke with the point will put a ***** (I bet that's going to be censored) in the armor and it's easy work thereafter.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Women's TdF or prize purses for female racers but okay. I've only ever ridden one pink girl's bike that I know of. I was going up the hill to visit my mom. I had told her about my Trek and she had said "Oh. I was hoping you'd have a pretty pink bike" so I thought "What the heck? A bike is a bike" and I borrowed a pink Schwinn step-through from the shop. It wasn't a cruiser. It had gears. Unfortunately, it didn't have low enough gearing to get me up to the top of the steep hill and - no matter how hard I pedaled - I couldn't get it any further than 3/4 the way up and had to walk it until I got to more level ground. Mom thought it was adorable but I never made that mistake again. I've been eyeing LoP's hot pink bike ever since he got it but I only have stand-over in one spot so that's not happening.

The saying in the mountain bike industry when making women's bikes is "pink it and shrink it".
I used to ride road with a woman who had everything pink. Kit, helmet, shoes and her Trek were all pink. She even got pink tires. She was a good rider and would do the climbing centuries we have out here. She switched to running for some reason.

The Hammer is alive! I'll pick it up today and be able to use it tomorrow, then the R2 will be back.
