Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’ve thought about this. Still not sure if I am ready for tubeless. I’ve put 2000 miles on the C2 and havnt had one flat. Naturally, I’ll get one on my next ride now.

I was pretty hell bent on getting new wheels as my next big purchase, but I’m leaning towards getting a used Titanium breakway sometime next year. I really want to bring my bike to work, and I think the flight schedule will continue to be relaxed I will have more time to ride while at work.

I'm just kidding, but FWIW the Assaults are like 90% of the road wheelsets out there - they're tubeless ready; you don't have to run tubeless tires on them. There are only a half-dozen or so wheelsets (a couple Zipps, some ENVE, etc) that require you to use tubeless tires (though you don't actually have to run them tubeless, but why buy those wheels at that point, if that's the case).

Question for those with more training acumen than I: for the ride today, Intervals.icu had me an a NP that put me at 104% Intensity for a 1hr 23min ride. Should I be bumping my FTP?

Edited to add: I really have no desire to grind out an FTP test at this point, though.

Is there room in the cockpit to set up a trainer?

You have to be honest with yourself. If it doesn't make sense, or it's a touch too easy, there's good reason.

That's the thing - I just don't know. I seem to be more suited to going above threshold for a bit and then backing off and then doing it again and again. The ride wasn't easy - there was plenty of discomfort and gasping, but then there was recovery. That said idea of trying to hold my NP for the ride for an hour plus is not terribly appealing. At all.

Anyway, I just don't want to to be too far off in my load calculations and whatnot, though I don't know how much of a difference being off by 15-20w would make.

With recovery, and even if it's considered easy, which I consider low Z2, NP seems suspect. That said, NP in itself can be manipulated, which is where the honesty comes into play. I'm no expert, because ****ting the bed on intervals is my specialty, so when I do well for a few days in a row, I'm both happy and apprehensive. Does that mean the next target will be higher? Crap....

Prolly. NP isn't perfect for everyone, but it's unlikely you actually did that.

And therein lies the problem with keeping your fitness over 100 - it really relies on not bumping your FTP as you gain fitness. When I did my test earlier this year my TSS plunged, and it will again next time I assume. You've been doing a lot lately, so of course your true FTP has gone up but without a test, it manifests as an ability to register more TSS. But it's not real, because your real FTP is higher than set.

I'll test once it's cold again. Or at least cool.

Definitely too high and your power curve seems very high on the short end relative to FTP. Do a few 5 or 10 min efforts. The app will recompute your whole curve and I bet your eFTP will float up. That’s a rough guide at least.

I hit 100% for that 1 hr TT on Thurs, so I need to bump too.

Or get lower. That'll knock that hour power straight down, and you'll be faster. I know it's the least appealing option, but it's real life. Granted, your true hour of power won't change, but you'll wish it did.

I'm looking for about another inch down and getting my arms together. I can likely handle the further drop, but that arm thing is painful.
