1971 Raleigh Super Course Project
About 3 weeks ago I nabbed a 1971 Super Course with various original parts and extra’s on a trade for a set of BMX pedals. Rolled it in for a few pics today in it’s vintage glory and thought it needed a thread.
Mods include a Sakae crankset & BB, 14-30 6sp freewheel, araya wheelset, road champion bar, shimano deerhead rear derailleur and arabesque front. She rides very smooth for the very short January 15th ride.

Nice bike! The Raleighs that I have owned(still do) all ride great. From the low end Grand Prix to the Super Grand Prix to the Competition GS all are good quality bikes. Enjoy the ride.

That's no joke, mine feels luxurious in the way I can relax as I head down hill first thing in the morning, enjoying that extra helping of stability.
Exactly the same as a Grand Sport(s), also similar to the Grand Prix.
Electroforged Schwinns afford the rider a similar well-planted steering feel, why I still use my Varsity on the road.

I wasn’t able to ride it more than around the corner and into the shop. Maybe in the spring I’ll ride it a bit but will most likely get rid of this one. Pretty cool to finally have one completed after first turning one down 9 years ago. The big 27x1 1/4 tires do give it a nice ride even with high psi Araya rims.

I was going to ask the wheel size- lots of room for fenders up front.
these were bikes that if the customer appreciated the ride, they sold. Sometimes the customer liked them but really preferred the Japanese derailleur performance/ they would buy this and have the derailleurs exchanged, often stem or bar end controls. The shop owner always smiled with those transactions. Profit margin was king.
took near a decade for the Grand Prix to get a Japanese drivetrain.

A big thank you to @nlerner for the pedals and the others answering my questions along the way. This place is a treasure trove of info.

Love em!
I have 2 of these. They have an awesome supple ride an a classy look. Old Raleigh's are great bikes! Love the green. Both of mine are brown.
Latest project to be done.
