THE DOUBLE DAMN
Registration for the last Day Across Minnesota opens next Saturday, January 2nd! When it does, racers will have the option to register for the 240 or an arguably more challenging gravel adventure.
“The Double DAMn” is a 480 mile gravel road leg shredder and mind bender. It starts at the stroke of midnight in Gary, South Dakota on Saturday, August 14th with our DAMn 240 racers, checks in with us in Hager City, Wisconsin, at the 240 mile mark, and then returns to Gary, South Dakota via a new route with more elevation gain and minimal overlap. Racers will have 48 hours to finish.
If we’re being honest, when all is said and done, you’re gonna be pushing 500 miles as you’re rolling back into our Gary, South Dakota finish line. We once had someone tell us that The Day Across Minnesota wasn’t hard enough. Well, here’s our response. We double DAMn dare you!
-Trenton & Erik
😳 This Toad is planning to ride the '21 DAMn, but the Double DAMn is more than this Toad has to give. OTOH - I'm gearing up to be the fastest fatbike across Minnesota in '21 ... So I got that going for me 😁

Those kinds of distances are not for me. I love a century, but after maybe 140 or so, everything hurts too much.
That young Chase Wark is something else, isn't he? He came in 4th in the Gravel Worlds this weekend, just a few seconds behind Colin Strickland.

Great report. I have a bunch of friends (Midtowners) who rode this year and a few who did the double. But man, on a fat bike? You're tough.

Midtown was well represented out there! I'm friends with a number of Midtown riders, including Sean with his Double DAMn redemption attempt
Chase blows my mind, for others reading this thread, here's a pic of him with his DAMn rig

From Checkpoint Zero Film:
Our new film, The Last Damn, begins its festival run today in The Bicycle Film Festival's BFF 2023 Virtual Worldwide, with in person events and other festival screenings to come in 2023. We will also be holding a MN screening in early 2023, more info to come! Please see the festival link and teaser trailer below for more info. Over 600 riders signed up for the 2021 Day Across Minnesota, the event this film is based on. Having filmed the DAMn three times, we are truly inspired by all the riders who are willing to take on 240 or 480 miles of gravel roads. It takes a strong will and to quote John "Johnny Gravel" Jarvis, "perhaps a lack of oxygen to the brain," to push oneself in rides like these. We wished we could cover all of the amazing rider stories that played out over that weekend in August, unfortunately we couldn't be everywhere at once. As a filmmaker, I can personally attest there are stories that we heard about after the race, that we weren't able to capture, that will haunt me for a long time. The reality is for The Last Damn and our two previous gravel films, Delta of Spirit and Ride More, Drift Less, nearly all of the footage was filmed by one person chasing riders across the state. I'd wager we put over 1,000 miles on our vehicle for The Last Damn, probably more. All of the riders are inspiring to us, we wish this film could feature all of you in some way. Below is a list of the those featured in The Last Damn. There are many others who make an appearance as well. And again, we wish we could capture all of you because whether you appear in this film or not, we are inspired and humbled by sharing the gravel with you. And we're not done making gravel films. We'll see you out on the hot and dusty soon! In order of appearance:
Nick Garbis
Charles Parsons
Ben Weaver
Beth Rood
Cory Rood
John Jarvis
Chase Wark
Jensen Esteves
Issac Weeks
David Weeks
Chris Nelson
Mario Franzone
Joel Raygor
Erik Englund
Geoffrey Wilson
Rob Martinez
Nathan Wentz

Wow, that's a surprise! I figure that organizing big rides isn't getting any easier, so I assume they're gone for good without a herculean effort. Are you gonna do it again Hypno Toad ?

I'm friends with the race director, he 'ended' the DAMn to spend more time with his kids, and now his oldest kid is interested in riding the DAMn, so we all get to ride through the night and across the state again.

COURSE RECORD! Fastest DAMn Fatbike!!
Unofficial time: 16:47 ... beating the past record from the first DAMn in 2017 by roughly 40 minutes.
The weather was outstanding, clear skies, cool temps, and friendly tailwinds.
So grateful to Frau Toad for her loving support before, during, and after this massive challenge!

Just released on Amazon Prime, The Last DAMn https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/deta..._dp_share_cu_r
You can see the 2021 DAMn that had been called The Last DAMn, but The DAMn came back from the dead for 2024. You'll see this Toad finish on The War Rig (drop-bar Pugsley) and I get interviewed about my DAMn tattoo

The Cutthroat is making great wall art in my office
My plans of building it out over the winter got kicked down the road as I focused time and $$$ on the Arrowhead, so it's now my project for the coming winter when I will not take on any ultras ... my body and credit cards need some ultra rest
