If I die, it's probably because
... I set up my non-tubeless rim with a tubeless tire. I had to put on 5 layers of tape to get a proper seal, but it seems really secure. Can't get it to hiss.
It's a hooked rim, obviously. Odds this goes terribly wrong?

I’ve done this half a dozen times successfully for CX or gravel, but I’ve never had enough nerve to do it for road tires.
Good luck!

I knew a guy that did this on some non tlr rims for the road, set it up, the tire pumped up, he left it over night before putting in sealant, the tire blew off the rim at 3 am. He abandoned the test. Not that it might not work for you, but at such pressures, I would not try it.

I have these aired up to 80psi rn. Let's see how well they hold. So far so good.

He did have TLR tires, they were not new, however, but did not have that many miles on them. Someone gave them to him as his bike could only fit 25mm max and the other guy moved to 28mm. So could have been a collection of issues

In reality, I don't know that anyone cares about DIY tubeless on a tubed rim. I could be wrong. The thread title however, that's a gift that'll keep on giving. It might push the thread into epic status in the future.
If I die, it's probably because I got steamrolled by a Bro in a Bubba Truck trying to roll coal on me.

If I die it will be because I experienced sudden and immediate negative chain stretch while riding behind a woman who is not my wife.

That fancy buzzy rear hub of mine drowned out the approaching train horn as I bunnyhopped the RR crossing tracks trying to win a Strava segment.
