Interesting idea... How does the cable link up with the mechanism that drives the pulleys in the crank?

Grab/immobilize the spiral plate. Pedal forward to increase gear ratio. backward to decrease.
Evolutionary dead end, pretty much obsoleted by high cog counts on the rear axle, coupled with 2 or 3 rings on the crank.

Thanks. Mechanically, that makes a lot more sense.

I agree that conventional derailleur setups of the time and IGHs are hard to beat.

I've been wondering how noisy all those front guide wheels will be? Also do they have ball bearings, or not?
