>> Put a normal centerpull bridge cable and brake bridge on and that'll help with your adjustment
I'm not sure what a "normal centerpull bridge cable" is -- this one looks like what I use -- but I agree that the angles look all wrong on that front cantilever. To be effective, the cable and the lever arm should form a 90 degree angle.
cheers -mathias

This bike had a blue accent theme when new. I had a set of Campagnolo barcons with the blue sleeve laying around. I thought i'd tried a drop bar conversion. It came out pretty good.. Shifting well, the cantilever brakes are not working so well, need more troubleshooting. What do you think?
Thanks
Thanks
Your straddle cable is a touch on the long side, but not enough to make the brakes ineffective.

Are those brake levers the "cantilever" version or the "V-brake" version? The leverage ratio will be way off if they are the "V-brake" version. High effort, low force on the rim.

I picked up this ‘dale because I’m a sucker for unusual frames. No dents but the usual scratches one would expect.
A few questions;
- what spindle length for the BB to run a triple?
- Is the paint supposed to be a matte finish? I took some fine polishing compound to it but I’m not getting much shine.
- From what I gather, this headshok is relatively simple. Is it relatively easy to service as well? The on/off dial turns freely fwiw.

t2p It is my understanding (ignorance is bliss) that the flavor of HeadShok inhabiting my bike is much simpler than some of the fancier units on higher end ‘dales. I’ve seen exploded diagrams of some of these things with a bunch of needle bearings and other stuff and they look a bit intimidating.

i ended up with this..... low rider. it had kind of a nice ride feel to it. but felt way to low for trail riding. i sold it quite a while ago.
not the original paint - kind of a smokey clear powder coat over polished aluminum... well, a lazy man's polish job...

1992 Trek 950
I mounted a set of continental winter contact tires, 26 x 1.9, on my '92 Trek 950. It makes for a fine winter bike. There is a fair bit of snow and ice left on the local trails and these are great tires for mixed pavement and snow and ice. I should install fenders as well as the trails are full of muck this time of year. This pic is from the end of a 15 mile ride I did yesterday. It was time to brew up some coffee before heading home.

i took apart one of these head shock things to replace it with a rigid fork - man - slides and roller bearings and crap all over the place. so simple? i guess it's relative...

...that being said, there was a coaster brake bike I put together and the chain fell off when the light turned green(for me) at The Busy Intersection. If I had lost the chain with a red light..... It would not have been good enough! ha!
ps: Also the head tube spacers used for the smaller steerer tube fork eat up even more of the steerer tube length. It's a bodge, almost a complete bodge.

Was in the mood for something different yesterday so I took out the 95 ParkPre on a 20mi ride.

Mid 90's Trek 8700 Carbon Composite hardtail. Phil hubs, zoom tube. Not sure what else. Once I give it a proper wash, lube and air it up I can post pics. Was so dusty that I just hit it with a hose.

Rare Paramount PDG40,
turned out to be a favorit , bought from a guy that used to work at a Schwinn shop ...

Back when I worked at Fishers Cyclery in Salt Lake City ('94 -'96) there was a guy who had one just like this. He'd bring it in for regular tune ups and occasional brake pad replacements and whatnot. Nice bike; I haven't seen one since those days. Nice bike!

Thought I would bump this thread along. Haven’t seen a lot of these here - 1995 Giant ATX 870. All original except I swapped the saddle and the grips.
Still has the original shop stickers.
Wish I could lay my hands on a shipping container of these.

Specialized Stumpjumper
Mid 90s 16.5 inch stumpjumper. I just picked this up for a friend. The bike won't need much work as it was ridden by someone who was a fair mechanic. He was the original owner and kept the bike properly serviced. It doesn't get much better than that. I'll need to do something about the chipped paint on the chain stay but that won't be hard.

New additions to the herd. Picked-up these freebies today. My love for NorCal mtb's continues with my first Santa Cruz. Heckler X from around 2000. Cannondale model I have no idea as it's tt is pretty scratched and the decals are gone. Probably one of the M models. Both seem to have upgrades here and there. Fork on the Cannondale is definitely not original. I think this came rigid. Girvin crank,XT rd. Santa Cruz has some Titec, Azonic, etc.etc. All suspension parts on both are moving but we'll see when I rebuild both. Garaged so I'm not too worried about anything seized.

If your friend doesn't like it, that beauty happens to be just my size.
