Signs of Spring?
What are the signs that Spring is finally here?
I noticed a few things on today's ride:
I noticed a few things on today's ride:
- Wearing knee warmers and arm warmers was a mistake
- A turkey vulture was eating road kill in the bike lane
- I am now sneezing my head off

Our sign of spring was an ice storm 5 days ago with massive power outages and downed trees. Over 1.1 million households without power at its peak. I had no power for almost 5 days with below freezing temperatures most of the time
Right now, tens of thousands of households still have no power, but temperatures are going up, right now 10 C(50 f)

Being willing to ride in 35 degrees F a month ago and now deciding that, since we've had a few days with the temps in the 60s and 70s, 48 degrees and windy is too unpleasant, so I do an indoor ride.

Warmer liquid sunshine,
highs up in the 50°s
tree pollen
desire to buy new tires - completed, maybe.
new vintage bike for the coming year - complete
time to get 'serious', , and lose 10-12 pounds.

In Tokyo the cherry blossom season brings the warmer weather, and this year’s season was a little earlier. Yesterday I was in shorts for the first time this year, and enjoyed a 40km ride around the city.

All things come with a cost. The influx of all kinds of traffic here in south coastal Delaware. We now have year 'round traffic. However, spring break time is now the start more summer-like crowds on weekends, more people all week. It is time for me to start getting out earlier in the morning, and doing more inland miles. I had a close one crossing Coastal Hwy Saturday, in the realm of possibly being hit if I had not been paying attention. And, having brakes that work, as the guy gave me the oh so friendly "sorry I didn't see you" wave, as he sped on down the highway.

I counted 7 ebikes, 19 gravel bikes, and lost count of the number of department store full suspension mountain bikes while on a 4 mile rail trail walk yesterday, does that count?
It *was* a gorgeous day though. Been raining a ton, but the sun was out and everything is just starting to bloom. Of course, we got an overnight frost so we'll see how much of it survived.

We've already enjoyed the redbuds blooming (spectacular) and dogwood winter hit the dogwoods hard, so they weren't so noticeable. Now the domesticated/hybrid azaleas are in bloom, and last week's cold snap made it clear it was blackberry winter, since they were blooming.
It's been pothole season for months now, unfortunately. I liked the news article about the man in North Carolina who got tired of the city not fixing a big pothole near his house, so he went out and planted a tree in it. The city pulled the tree within 12 hours, but didn't patch the pothole. He was even more angry about that, so he planted another tree in the same hole. This time, the city fixed the pothole as they dug up the tree.

California poppies are expected to have a 'superbloom' season this year, which means a 'superbloom' of tourists going out to see them in the fields of the foothills around Los Angeles (its turns into a mob-mentality scene in those places).

Some how the latest atmospheric river missed CA and is hitting WA for the next few days. This was taken on Friday during a ride.

Its distantly related to opium poppies, but never found to have any effects similar to opioids. No real scientific studies done on it but you can buy supplements in nutrition stores that contain extracts from them.
