Struggle seating headset - with pics
Threadless headset. Not cartridge bearings, exposed “caged” type bearings. Having trouble getting the cone to center the steerer tube after I insert the compression ring. Seems to shift before I can get the stem on and clamped resulting in a less than flush assembly. Is this operation easier in a stand with no front wheel on? Keep getting this gap. Help! ;-).

Do you have the cage bearings in the correct orientation?
